{"id":236184,"date":"2025-09-18T10:57:26","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T10:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/236184\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T10:57:26","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T10:57:26","slug":"alleged-charlie-kirk-assassin-tyler-robinson-negotiated-gentle-surrender-was-afraid-of-being-shot-sheriff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/236184\/","title":{"rendered":"Alleged Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson negotiated &#8216;gentle&#8217; surrender, was afraid of being shot: sheriff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More details have emerged about how <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/16\/us-news\/tyler-robinson-charged-with-7-counts-including-aggravated-murder-in-charlie-kirk-assassination-death-penalty-will-be-sought\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alleged\u00a0Charlie Kirk\u00a0assassin Tyler Robinson<\/a> was turned over to police while the manhunt for a suspect ensued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Washington County Sheriff Nate Brooksby said at a news conference Wednesday he received a call from a former\u00a0law enforcement\u00a0friend telling him Robinson, 22, was the shooter. <\/p>\n<p>Robinson reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/12\/us-news\/who-is-tyler-robinson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">had suicidal thoughts <\/a>but was convinced by his parents not to harm himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brooksby said Robinson knew he would be caught and was afraid of a SWAT raid on his home. <\/p>\n<p>He was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/16\/us-news\/tyler-robinsons-chilling-confession-to-trans-partner-about-charlie-kirks-murder-you-are-all-i-worry-about-love\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also afraid of being shot by the police<\/a>, the sheriff said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTyler knew it was just inevitable with all the law enforcement pressure that he, his picture in the news, the gun, the gun on the news,\u201d he said. \u201cHe knew it was inevitable that he would be caught.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Brooksby, the call from his friend came in at 8:02 p.m. Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Robinson attends a virtual court hearing from Utah County Jail on Sept. 16, 2025 in Spanish Fork, Utah.  Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could tell his voice was kind of shaky, so my first thought is, \u2018Who died?\u2019\u201d he said. \u201c\u2018Like, who\u2019s he gonna tell me that died?\u2019 And then I couldn\u2019t fathom what actually came out of his mouth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo he said, \u2018Hey, I know who Charlie Kirk\u2019s shooter is. I know the family through religious association, and he\u2019s in Washington County now. And we\u2019re working to get him to come in voluntarily,&#8217;\u201d Brooksby continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring that phone call, some information was provided about Tyler potentially having some suicidal ideation [and] was en route to a remote part of Washington County. AP<\/p>\n<p>Robinson asked for a \u201cpeaceful, gentle\u201d surrender, a condition to which the sheriff agreed to in order to get him to turn himself in. He was described as \u201cquiet and somber\u201d upon apprehension.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brooksby\u2019s office did not question Robinson while he waited for the lead investigators to arrive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about Robinson\u2019s family and his roommate and lover, Lance Twiggs, the sheriff said, \u201cThey need to lay low for a long time\u201d but did not elaborate further.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Brooksby told Fox News earlier in the day that Twiggs is in a \u201csafe space very far away from St. George,\u201d the Utah town where the pair lived. He added that law enforcement officials from outside of his agency are talking to Twiggs\u2019 associates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Brooksby, there is a Washington County Sheriff\u2019s deputy with the last name Robinson who is not related to the shooter as was initially rumored. He asked the media to make that point clear because the unrelated Robinson continues to be harassed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Robinson\u2019s lover, who is transgender, lived in a townhouse with him for about a year, according to a relative who spoke to Fox News Digital.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Robinson reportedly had suicidal thoughts but was convinced by his parents not to harm himself.\u00a0 Amber Jones Robinson \/ Facebook<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe hates conservatives and Christians,\u201d the relative said. \u201cHe hated us.
