As we venture into fall, the city\u2019s bustling art scene will continue to buzz with new exhibitions and installations to explore.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few things in the city\u2019s art scene that you won\u2019t want to miss this fall.\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bpca.ny.gov\/event\/illumination-light-art-festival-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Illumination NYC<\/a><br \/>Wagner Park, Battery Park City<br \/>Sept. 25-27, 6:30 \u2013 11 p.m. each day<\/p>\n<p>Ready to get LIT? Illumination NYC, New York City\u2019s premier light festival, returns for three nights only. This year, the festival will take place at the grand reopening of Wagner Park. Visitors can enjoy large scale light installations, live performances, interactive experiences and more! It is free to join the fun, and there will be food and drinks available for purchase each night.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/artindumbo.com\/first-thursdays\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">DUMBO\u2019s First Thursday Gallery Walks<\/a><br \/>Multiple participating galleries<br \/>Begins Oct. 2<\/p>\n<p>Fully immerse yourself in DUMBO\u2019s rich art scene with this special tour hosted by Art in DUMBO. The walks will take you through several of the neighborhood\u2019s many art galleries to see the latest works from local artists, led by a local arts professional. Tour guests will also get drink specials at Superfine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/?attachment_id=137797863\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-137797863 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-137797863\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/DCF08879.jpg\" alt=\"Illumination NYC is returning to Wagner Park!\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" title=\"Your fall arts guide for New York City 2025 2\"  \/><\/a>Illumination NYC is returning to Wagner Park!Courtesy of Battery Park City Authority<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.materialsforthearts.org\/event\/opening-reception-temporal-belongings-by-natsuki-takauji\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Natsuki Takauji: Temporal Belonging<\/a><br \/>Materials for the Arts (MFTA), 33-00 Northern Blvd., Long Island City<br \/>On display through Oct. 9<\/p>\n<p>MFTA Artist-in-Residence Natsuki Takauji takes a dive into the themes of life and death, home and belonging and the space inbetween with her new exhibition \u201cTemporal Belonging.\u201d The show is influenced by Takauji\u2019s travels to her native Japan, specifically Nagasaki, Hiroshima, and Fukushima, where abandoned homes remain frozen in time after nuclear devastation and natural disasters. She deciphered the stories that were left behind and enshrined them to be told again.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Westfall: Ornithology<br \/>Alexandre Gallery, 25 E 73rd St., Upper East Side<br \/>On display through Oct. 25<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Westfall\u2019s murals and other public works are fixtures across New York and beyond, and now he\u2019s bringing his work to the Alexandre Gallery. \u201cOrnithology\u201d is Westfall\u2019s first solo exhibition since 2021 and is his debut presentation since he retired as Undergraduate Director at Rutgers\u2019 Mason Gross School of the Arts. The exhibition highlights Westfall\u2019s decades-long experimentation with color and geometry and contains works on paper, new paintings and a two-floor site-specific mural.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amny.com\/?attachment_id=137797864\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-137797864 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-137797864\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/orithology.jpg\" alt=\"Stephen Westfall, Ornithology, 2025.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1230\" title=\"Your fall arts guide for New York City 2025 3\"  \/><\/a>Stephen Westfall, Ornithology, 2025.Photo courtesy of the Alexandre Gallery<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.colorfactory.co\/locations\/new-york-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Haunted Hues<\/a><br \/>Color Factory, 251 Spring St., Soho<br \/>On display through Oct. 31<\/p>\n<p>Color Factory is gearing up for fall with the return of its popular exhibit \u201cHaunted Hues.\u201d Guests will be able to fully immerse themselves in a bright fall color palette in an exhibit created by local artists. You can also learn more about color throughout the museum with unique installations, also created by local artists!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fdrfourfreedomspark.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ai Weiwei: Camouflage<\/a><br \/>FDR Four Freedoms State Park, Roosevelt Island<br \/>On display through Nov. 10<\/p>\n<p>Ai Weiwei is creating a direct dialogue with Roosevelt Island\u2019s FDR Four Freedoms State Park with the creation of \u201cCamouflage.\u201d Opening in conjunction with the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly and the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, \u201cCamouflage\u201d transforms the park into an open sanctuary by draping the area in camouflage netting. Visitors are encouraged to write their own statements of freedom and attach them to \u201cCamouflage,\u201d making it an ever-evolving project.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moma.org\/calendar\/exhibitions\/5756\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Pirouette: Turning Points in Design<\/a><br \/>Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53rd St., Midtown<br \/>On display through Nov. 15<\/p>\n<p>See how design has evolved over the years at this new MoMA exhibition. From Post-its to Spanx, \u201cPirouette\u201d explores what deep impact design has had on our everyday lives. Throughout the fall, the museum will display 44 dog-themed covers of The New Yorker that were printed throughout the years. The exhibition will also include commentary of the covers as well as highlighting the roles of dogs in New York City.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/movingimage.org\/event\/mission-impossible-story-and-spectacle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE\u2014Story and Spectacle<\/a><br \/>Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Ave., Astoria<br \/>On display through Dec. 14<\/p>\n<p>As the name suggests, this exhibition at the Museum of the Moving Image celebrates all things \u201cMISSION: IMPOSSIBLE.\u201d The exhibition includes sections dedicated to each film in the franchise, commentary from actor Tom Cruise and unique behind-the-scenes content that you won\u2019t find anywhere else!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/exhibitions\/man-ray-when-objects-dream\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Man Ray: When Objects Dream<\/a><br \/>Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 Fifth Ave., Upper East Side<br \/>On display through Feb. 1, 2026<\/p>\n<p>The Met is paying homage ot American artist Man Ray with the new exhibition \u201cWhen Objects Dream.\u201d Known for his radical experimentation within photography, painting, sculpture, and film, Man Ray is no stranger to pushing the limits of his mediums. The exhibition will include works from the 1910s and 1920s highlighting his boundary-breaking works.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycgovparks.org\/art\/art1271\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Morris Park Stars<\/a><br \/>Loreto Park, 1111 Van Nest Ave., Bronx<br \/>On display through June 20, 2026<\/p>\n<p>Morris Park Stars encourages the public to reach for the stars, bringing joy and energy to the park. Comprised of nine 110-foot-long \u201cstars,\u201d these dynamic light fixtures enhance Loreto Park with bright colors and patterns.
