{"id":236430,"date":"2025-09-18T13:21:15","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T13:21:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/236430\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T13:21:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T13:21:15","slug":"judge-issues-partial-injunction-against-houston-isd-in-pay-for-performance-dispute-with-teachers-union-houston-public-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/236430\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge issues partial injunction against Houston ISD in pay-for-performance dispute with teachers\u2019 union \u2013 Houston Public Media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/articles\/news\/health-science\/2020\/03\/09\/363210\/local-schools-arent-helping-staffers-deal-with-coronavirus-union-says\/attachment\/20200309-img_0175\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-363219\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20200309-IMG_0175-1000x667.jpg\" alt=\"Houston Federation of Teachers\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\"   data-eio=\"p\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lucio Vasquez \/ Houston Public Media<\/p>\n<p>Houston Federation of Teachers building on Sutherland St. Taken on March 9, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The Houston Federation of Teachers (HFT) is celebrating Judge Cheryl Elliott Thornton\u2019s decision to issue a partial temporary injunction against Houston ISD over how it\u2019s doling out state-funded raises for educators.<\/p>\n<p>HFT, the largest teachers\u2019 union in Houston, sued the district earlier this summer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/articles\/education\/2025\/08\/27\/529599\/pay-for-performance-dispute-between-houston-isd-and-its-largest-teachers-union-continues-in-court-thursday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">requested an injunction<\/a> to prevent HISD from issuing raises based on performance rather than tenure. <\/p>\n<p>In the ruling filed Saturday, in which Thornton granted part of the injunction request while denying another as the lawsuit continues to play out, she wrote that HISD\u2019s performance-based raises may differ from the ordered usage by the state under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/articles\/news\/education-news\/2025\/05\/30\/522625\/texas-8-5b-school-funding-plan-is-headed-to-abbotts-desk-what-it-means-for-students-and-teachers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Bill 2<\/a>, an $8.5 billion funding package for Texas public schools.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The injunction comes on the heels of Houston ISD Superintendent Mike Miles being awarded a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/articles\/education\/2025\/09\/16\/531046\/houston-isd-superintendent-mike-miles-receiving-173k-bonus-based-on-performance-evaluation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$173,660 bonus<\/a> based on his annual performance evaluation.
