{"id":236473,"date":"2025-09-18T13:44:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T13:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/236473\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T13:44:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T13:44:10","slug":"nba-invests-in-sleep-wearable-company-somnee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/236473\/","title":{"rendered":"NBA invests in sleep wearable company Somnee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \"><a href=\"https:\/\/somneesleep.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/somneesleep.com\/\">Somnee<\/a>, a wearable designed to improve a user\u2019s sleep duration and quality, released its second-generation hardware and announced an investment from the NBA following the startup\u2019s participation in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/09\/15\/nba-launchpad-opens-fifth-cohort-applications-with-track-record-of-facilitating-team-league-deals-for-graduates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/09\/15\/nba-launchpad-opens-fifth-cohort-applications-with-track-record-of-facilitating-team-league-deals-for-graduates\/\">Launchpad<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \">NBA Investments has now taken equity stakes in seven Launchpad alumni, a program that includes pilot testing with owned-and-operated properties. Somnee announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/10\/nba-launchpad-participant-somnee-raises-10-million-for-its-sleep-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/06\/10\/nba-launchpad-participant-somnee-raises-10-million-for-its-sleep-tech\/\">a $10M seed extension in June<\/a> led by Khosla Ventures with participation from the owners of the Magic, the Adidas-inspired Lead VC, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff\u2019s Time Ventures and others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \">\u201cInvestment at the seed stage typically rests on who the founders are and projections of what the company could become,\u201d Somnee CEO Tim Rosa told SBJ. \u201cIn our case, the NBA\u2019s investment validates where we are today: it was contingent on the strong performance of our second-generation Somnee in a league-managed research pilot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \">Somnee\u2019s sleep headband was used in a six-week study with 32 NBA and WNBA staff and coaches. They reported 15% less sleep interruption, 13% better sleep quality, a 37-minute total sleep increase and a 20% improvement in REM sleep, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/09\/15\/nba-launchpad-opens-fifth-cohort-applications-with-track-record-of-facilitating-team-league-deals-for-graduates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2025\/09\/15\/nba-launchpad-opens-fifth-cohort-applications-with-track-record-of-facilitating-team-league-deals-for-graduates\/\">a Launchpad Demo Day presentation<\/a> from Somnee CPO Dennis Miloseski.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \">Neuroscientist Matt Walker, a former Harvard Medical School professor now on the faculty at Berkeley, is the founder who led the creation of Somnee. The 2.0 version of the product has been redesigned for better comfort, and the AI algorithms providing personalized neurostimulation and sleep tracking have been improved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph technology \">\u201cThe importance of sleep is obvious to all athletes and team medical and training staff, but tools like Somnee can also massively benefit the coaches, referees, and front and back office staff as a universal performance driver,\u201d Rosa said. \u201cSleep literally impacts everyone.
