{"id":237336,"date":"2025-09-18T21:54:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T21:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/237336\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T21:54:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T21:54:11","slug":"lola-tung-chris-briney-on-show-ending","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/237336\/","title":{"rendered":"Lola Tung &#038; Chris Briney On Show Ending"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>SPOILER ALERT: This post spoils the finale for <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-summer-i-turned-pretty\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-summer-i-turned-pretty\" data-tag=\"the-summer-i-turned-pretty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Summer I Turned Pretty<\/a> Season 3.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe invisible string that has always connected Belly (<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/lola-tung\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lola-tung\" data-tag=\"lola-tung\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lola Tung<\/a>) and Conrad (<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/christopher-briney\/\" id=\"auto-tag_christopher-briney\" data-tag=\"christopher-briney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christopher Briney<\/a>) came through in the Season 3 finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThough it took Belly a bit to open up to Conrad after he showed up in Paris without warning her, the pair cleared the air regarding the years of tension and chemistry between them before declaring their love for each other in heartfelt ways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tTung called it a \u201crole reversal\u201d for Belly to hold back while Conrad had his heart on his sleeve.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI like seeing the switch, and I think it\u2019s clear that she\u2019s had a lot of time to grow and has been on her own for a while and enjoys her life here in Paris, and is very surprised to see him show up,\u201d she told Deadline in an interview Thursday morning. \u201cBelly sort of takes on some of the stuff that Conrad used to really do, and she\u2019s very hesitant to invite him into her life and to fully commit to their relationship, because it\u2019s scary. It\u2019s really scary to do that, especially after all that they\u2019ve been through, but at least they\u2019re honest about it this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn the below interview, Tung and Briney break down the end of their character arcs in the show, what they know about the upcoming film installment that will conclude The Summer I Turned Pretty and more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>DEADLINE: Chris, what does it mean for you to have Conrad\u2019s arc play out the way it does?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>CHRISTOPHER BRINEY: <\/strong>I\u2019m happy for him. I\u2019m proud of him. First of all, I feel lucky that we got to get to this point in the arc. I remember our first season. We hoped one person would watch it and enjoy it, and hope we get a second season and then so on. So we\u2019re lucky to be able to have finished the arc in that way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tI was always sort of playing him with this in mind. I think it\u2019s, it\u2019s important, and all the things you can say about his past actions, or where he was when you first meet him, or whatever, I think it was all leading up to the finale. I\u2019m proud of him. Did you talk with Jackie Chung about that at all in preparation?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>LOLA TUNG: <\/strong>Aw, I don\u2019t think so, but I spend a lot of time with Jackie, so maybe it just happened naturally. She\u2019s such an incredible role model in my life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY:<\/strong> And a great actor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>And person. She\u2019s incredible, and Rachel too. I remember [for the] first season, one of the early days filming a scene with the two of them. At lunch, I just sat with them, and they told me stories and gave me pieces of advice. I was like, \u2018Yeah, these are some of the coolest women I\u2019ve ever met in my life.\u2019 It\u2019s such a compliment that to hear that, so thank you, that she\u2019s channeling Laurel. She\u2019s her mother\u2019s daughter, for sure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>DEADLINE: You both spoke about the role reversal, but what else you can say about flipping the dynamic between them and how it was similar, like familiar but also different in the finale?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>I mean they probably hadn\u2019t seen each other in, what, a year?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY:<\/strong> And especially for Belly like that was a big year. And she \u2014 I\u2019m speaking for [Lola] now \u2014<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>Please.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>Experienced a lot, and made decisions for herself in a way that we\u2019ve sort of seen Conrad doing and being comfortable doing. So, as much as they have a long history, they\u2019re sort of meeting each other in very different places in their lives. And also, you have to factor in the fact that he did just show up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>[Laughs].<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>She wasn\u2019t prepared to see him when he showed up. He was literally just waiting outside. So that\u2019s jarring, and understandably, maybe that leads to something like, \u2018Oh\u2026what\u2019s up?\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>Like \u2018Hey\u2026\u2019 Super jarring, but maybe it\u2019s good that she didn\u2019t have time to prepare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>Sure, sure, but yeah, very jarring, but in terms of part of this reversal, he was more prepared than she was.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/photo_8_3000.jpg\" alt=\"Belly (Lola Tung) in 'The Summer I Turned Pretty'\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"684\" width=\"1024\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tBelly (Lola Tung) in \u2018The Summer I Turned Pretty\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEddy Chen\/Amazon Content Services<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>DEADLINE: Were there conversations with Jenny about the scene where they kiss, they get together, and then the train scene, making that sequence feel earned for audiences?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>I mean, I hope that the three seasons have felt like [that] leading up to this, and that nothing felt rushed, and I know people were wanting that moment early on. And it\u2019s like, I think you have to have everything happen the way that it does in order for them to get to this place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>Warranted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>Yeah, and I think that\u2019s why it is great that they feel like, not different people. They\u2019re the same people at their core, but they feel like they\u2019ve actually experienced new things and lived life without each other and had time apart. Then they have tough conversation after in Belly\u2019s apartment. It feels like, \u201cOkay, I mean, we\u2019ve done all the things. What\u2019s stopping us now?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>DEADLINE: What are you excited to expand on in the movie when it gets shot?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know. It\u2019s just so up to Jenny. It\u2019s hard to say. I mean, thank God I\u2019m not in the writer\u2019s room, because I would write in some dumb sh*t.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>He wants Conrad on the moon. In space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>Driving a cool car. Guns. James Bond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>No, no. None of that. Stop saying that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tI\u2019m sure Jenny has, has a great \u2014 \u00a0she apparently has a first draft. So hopefully, maybe soon we\u2019ll find out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>We won\u2019t do that for months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>Maybe you won\u2019t. I\u2019m getting my hands on that draft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>DEADLINE: Wha<\/strong><strong>t<\/strong> <strong>have you both learned from these characters that you\u2019ll take into future roles?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>I don\u2019t know how much I\u2019ve explicitly learned from Conrad, but we\u2019ve been fortunate enough to have so much time working on set. Genuinely so much time. That\u2019s a really lucky thing to be familiar with the way things work and learn your limits and learn how to stay in it when you have to and go home at night and be okay and not lose yourself. I\u2019m grateful for that experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>I actually do feel like I\u2019ve learned a lot from Belly and stepping into her shoes. One of the reasons I love acting is you become someone else for a little bit. And it\u2019s funny, because you\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m taking on this confidence and this whatever. That\u2019s me doing that. So I know it\u2019s somewhere inside of me.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>Oh interesting, yeah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>TUNG: <\/strong>And I\u2019m capable of doing that. Was that the way you wanted to play it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>I don\u2019t remember that being the choice. I don\u2019t know. Maybe there was some direction in that way that I don\u2019t remember, but I thought it was more of him just working on accepting the rejection and accepting that like, \u2018Okay, all right, I had my head up my a**.\u2019 And \u2018back to work,\u2019 and \u2018that\u2019s okay,\u2019 and \u2018that\u2019s all right.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>DEADLINE: Also for Chris, I know you\u2019re worried about getting typecast. I\u2019m wondering if you have any thoughts on fans casting you in an Emily Henry romance. Those are big right now. Wouldn\u2019t you be open to playing one of her main guys?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>BRINEY: <\/strong>Oh, I don\u2019t know anything about her stories. I don\u2019t know. I guess it depends on what they\u2019re about. I\u2019d have to read it. I look forward to hopefully being able to do a lot of different things and a lot of different worlds with a lot of different creatives.
