{"id":237625,"date":"2025-09-19T00:25:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T00:25:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/237625\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T00:25:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T00:25:14","slug":"nikkei-225-kospi-bank-of-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/237625\/","title":{"rendered":"Nikkei 225, Kospi, Bank of Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People crossing the street in Shibuya, Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Maydays | Moment | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s benchmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a> index rose 1.19% to another fresh record high for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/18\/asia-pacific-markets-fed-cut-rates-as-expected-nikkei-225-hang-seng-index-kospi-nifty-50.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">second consecutive day<\/a>, ahead of the Bank of Japan&#8217;s rate decision.<\/p>\n<p>The central bank is slated to conclude its two-day policy meeting, where it is widely expected to keep policy rates steady at 0.5%, according to Reuters poll of economists.<\/p>\n<p>In a Sept. 12 note, HSBC analysts also agreed with the consensus, and forecasted that the BOJ will raise rates by 25 basis points at its October meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s core inflation rate fell to its lowest since November 2024, coming in at 2.7% for August and marking a third straight month of decline, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-stat.go.jp\/en\/stat-search\/files?page=1&amp;layout=datalist&amp;toukei=00200573&amp;tstat=000001150147&amp;cycle=1&amp;year=20250&amp;month=23070908&amp;tclass1=000001150149&amp;result_back=1&amp;tclass2val=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to government data<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The core inflation figure \u2014 which strips out prices of fresh food \u2014 was in line with the 2.7% expected by economists polled by Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Headline inflation in the country also dropped to 2.7%, coming down from 3.1% in July and marking a fresh low since November 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The analysts said that BOJ officials are looking for signs of economic resilience, &#8220;and we believe that the second quarter GDP print, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/15\/japans-gdp-expands-more-than-expected-in-second-quarter-as-tariffs-take-hold.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">outperformed market expectations<\/a>, certainly delivered.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Topix added 0.84%.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s ASX\/S&amp;P 200 climbed 0.77%. South Korea&#8217;s Kospi and small-cap Kosdaq were flat at the open.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hang Seng Index<\/a> was also set to start trading higher, with its futures contract last traded at 26,612, against the index&#8217;s previous close of 26,544.85.<\/p>\n<p>Overnight in the U.S., the major averages closed higher with smaller equities seeing the biggest boost, after the Federal Reserve signaled it was embarking on an easing rate path, reinvigorating investors and raising hopes for a ratcheting up of economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0closed up 0.48% at 6,631.96, while the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0popped 0.94% to settle at 22,470.73. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.DJI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0added 124 points, or 0.27%, to close at 46,142.42.<\/p>\n<p>Each of the major U.S. indexes notched a fresh all-time intraday high on Thursday, just a day after stocks had a volatile trading session Wednesday in the wake of the Fed&#8217;s rate cut.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CNBC&#8217;s Pia Singh and Alex Harring contributed to this report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"People crossing the street in Shibuya, Tokyo.
