\n\tStephen Colbert<\/a>, a man who knows a thing or two about getting caught up in a political firestorm<\/a>, has come to the support of his friend Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his monologue tonight on CBS\u2019 The Late Show (watch it below), Colbert mocked Disney<\/a> for pulling Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a> and stood up for freedom of speech.<\/p>\n

\n\tDiscussing FCC<\/a> Chair Brendan Carr\u2019s comments that \u201cit is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine fall short of community values,\u201d Colbert said: \u201cYou know what my community values are, Buster? Freedom of speech. Or, as Alexander Hamilton called it, \u2018Hakuna Matata.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tReferring to a report that Disney executives had been \u201cpissing themselves all day\u201d ahead of the decision to pull the show, Colbert joked, \u201cOn the bright side, that proves Disney is No. 1 in streaming.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tColbert\u2019s comments come 24 hours after ABC<\/a> indefinitely preempted Jimmy Kimmel Live! following a furor around Kimmel\u2019s comments about Charlie Kirk\u2019s killer.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Monday, Kimmel said, \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFCC Chairman Brendan Carr subsequently called Kimmel\u2019s comments \u201csome of the sickest conduct possible.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tThis was soon followed by local station Nexstar saying it would \u201cpreempt\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a>\u00a0for the foreseeable future\u201d as it \u201cstrongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMoments later, Disney made its own decision to pause the show.<\/p>\n

\n\tColbert is uniquely suited to comment on the situation given that his own late-night show was canceled earlier this year by CBS. While the network said that it was a financial decision, many wondered whether it was a political decision, given that Colbert had days before called Paramount\u2019s decision to settle a lawsuit with President Trump a \u201cbig fat bribe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter winning the Emmy on Sunday<\/a> for Outstanding Talk Series, Colbert said<\/a>, \u201cSometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added: \u201cI have never loved my country more desperately. God bless America. Stay strong. Be brave and if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe late-night hosts have all become friends over the years, and Colbert and Kimmel, alongside Seth Meyers and John Oliver, hosted their own podcast Strike Force Five<\/a>, during the 2023 writers strike.<\/p>\n

\n\tColbert also thanked Kimmel, who campaigned for The Late Show<\/a> to win its Emmy, earlier this week.<\/p>\n
