Luka Don\u010di\u0107 has snapped up the five-time Grand Slam champion\u2019s custom-built contemporary residence in an off-market deal valued at $25 million\u2014setting a new record as the priciest home sale in the coastal city\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

\n\tSharapova, who originally acquired the lot in 2012 for $4.1 million, tapped\u00a0KAA Design<\/a>\u00a0to create the 8,600-square-foot showpiece, dubbed the Sanctuary, blending Japanese and Scandinavian influences with breezy California<\/a> modernism. Think concrete walls, black metal framing around the windows, and expansive walls of glass that dissolve the barrier between indoors and outside. (The L.A.-based firm is also behind\u00a0Drake\u2019s Beverly Hills estate<\/a>, one of three trophy estates in the Canadian rapper\u2019s\u00a0$97 million real estate portfolio<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\n\tCompleted in 2015, the five-bedroom, eight-bath abode sits on about a quarter-acre in the coveted Hill Section of Manhattan Beach, and it comes loaded with lifestyle amenities, from a two-lane bowling alley in the basement to a resort-style swimming pool, multiple balconies, and an outdoor lounge and dining pavilion perfect for hosting A-list friends.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt $25 million, Don\u010di\u0107\u2019s purchase narrowly tops last year\u2019s\u00a0$24.5 million trade<\/a>\u00a0of an oceanfront home on The Strand, pushing his new home into record-breaking territory. Properties along The Strand have historically dominated price records in Manhattan Beach, but Don\u010di\u0107\u2019s acquisition proves the Hill Section can now command top dollar.<\/p>\n

\n\tFor Sharapova, who shares a young son with fianc\u00e9 Alexander Gilkes, the sale marks the end of her decade-long connection to the property as the couple shifts their time increasingly to Europe. Still, just last year the 38-year-old retired tennis<\/a> star scooped up an\u00a0$11.5 million estate in Montecito<\/a>, right next door to Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. The rustic yet refined five-bedroom residence, formerly owned by Chicago philanthropist Ann Lurie, was designed by Lockwood de Forest Jr. in 1949. She also maintains a $9 million ranch property in nearby Summerland.<\/p>\n

\n\tDon\u010di\u0107, meanwhile, is planting new roots in Los Angeles. After being traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers earlier this year, former sharpshooter Chandler Parsons allegedly claimed Don\u010di\u0107 had just closed on a $15 million home in the Big D\u2014an awkwardly timed deal given the superstar\u2019s imminent move west. Now, with a fresh three-year, $165 million extension and a record-setting $25 million Manhattan Beach estate in his portfolio, it seems clear the 26-year-old intends to make L.A. home both on and off the court.<\/p>\n
