It’s interesting to me that they are going back to play together because they are playing in a small tournament.

“It is interesting to me. I have done this a few times in my career, but at certain points in my career, you start looking at next year. Who are you going to play doubles with next year?”

Photo by -/AFP via Getty Images

And when asked if she’s predicting a split between Townsend and Siniakova, Stubbs replied: “That is not what I’m predicting but I am saying this is an interesting rekindling of a doubles team.

“I know Krejcikova has not done well in her doubles career since breaking up with Siniakova. They played together at a very early age, 12 or 13, and then they played together their whole career and won so many Grand Slams together.

“Kat has had success with Taylor, having won two Grand Slams, the Australian Open and Wimbledon but probably not the success she is used to.

“This is interesting. I am just putting it out there, we will see what happens at the Australian Open and who plays together.

“Stay tuned on that, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me that they would play together at the end of the year.

“I don’t know if I’m breaking news or this is just a one-off. I am throwing that out there. It’s an interesting situation. I might be jumping to a massive conclusion and if I am then so be it.”

What Grand Slam doubles titles has Katerina Siniakova won?

Stubbs knows about doubles tennis more than most, with a world number one ranking among her feats in the format.

Townsend currently occupies that role, with her most recent partner on the <a Siniakova Grand Slam doubles finals

But the Czech star has certainly now made an interesting move in her doubles career, having reunited with compatriot Krejcikova.

That pairing boasts a huge seven Grand Slam doubles titles, including a 2022 US Open final win over Townsend and Caty McNally.

But 10-time champion Siniakova went on to lift two Grand Slam doubles titles alongside Townsend, having also clinched one with Coco Gauff.

It certainly is an intriguing scenario that is playing out on the WTA Tour, but for now all the trio can do is focus on their current events.

Taylor Townsend has continued from where she left off at the US Open, helping the USA reach
