Happy last Friday of summer! Our Friday will start off sunny, with a few clouds building in the afternoon and a slight chance of pop up showers. Highs will yet again climb to the mid 90s. This weekend will generally trend dry, with a mix of sun and clouds and hot temperatures. Monday marks the first day of fall, and right on cue, we could finally catch a break from the heat. A low pressure system moving south across the state may usher in noticeably cooler air, dropping our highs into the mid 80s. This will also increase our chance of rain across the state.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Gov. Greg Abbott announces $250M grant for Samsung semiconductor facility in Central Texas<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Wednesday that Samsung would receive a $250 million grant for its facility in Central Texas.<\/p>\n

The Samsung Austin Semiconductor factory in Taylor has yet to open, but it has been\u00a0projected to contribute $26.8 billion\u00a0to Central Texas. The $17 billion plant was supposed to open in late 2024 but\u00a0was delayed. It is now projected to open in 2026.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Texas has a new abortion pill law. But at least one provider plans to keep shipping them there<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has signed a first-of-its-kind law that lets anyone\u00a0sue prescribers\u00a0and others responsible for getting abortion pills into the state.<\/p>\n

Supporters are heralding the law, which Abbott signed Wednesday, as a way to enforce an existing ban. Abortion-rights advocates are bashing the law, saying it has the potential to turn abortion opponents, aggrieved former lovers and others into bounty hunters.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0How legislation could help improve water infrastructure in booming cities<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Concerns about future water supplies are echoed across the state.\u00a0Recently, state lawmakers passed an amendment hoping to shoulder some of the burden.\u00a0It would use $1 billion of the state\u2019s sales and use tax each year for water projects over the next two decades.<\/p>\n
