\n\tConan O\u2019Brien is weighing in on ABC\u2019s decision to indefinitely suspend Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live!<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe suspension of @jimmykimmel and the promise to silence other Late Night hosts for criticizing the administration should disturb everyone on the Right, Left, and Center,\u201d he wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s wrong and anyone with a conscience knows it\u2019s wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe former Late Night and Tonight Show host is one of many late night TV hosts who have voiced their disapproval on the indefinite suspension of Kimmel\u2019s show. Thursday night, as most late-night shows aired their episodes taped after ABC revealed their decision, Stephen Colbert defended Kimmel<\/a>, notably after his own The Late Show was recently canceled<\/a> by CBS.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe started Thursday night\u2019s episode saying, \u201cTonight, we are all Jimmy Kimmel \u2026 I stand with you and your staff 100 percent.\u201d Jimmy Fallon also backed<\/a> his fellow late night host, and said he \u201chope[s] he comes back\u201d on air.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tJimmy Kimmel Live! was \u201cpre-empted indefinitely\u201d by ABC on Wednesday shortly after Nexstar released a statement noting they would not air the planned episode and would preempt the long-running talk show for the foreseeable future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe backlash stemmed from Kimmel\u2019s remarks about the alleged shooter of Charlie Kirk. His comments were as follows: \u201cWe hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing Kimmel\u2019s remarks, Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr went on a podcast on Wednesday where he publicly condemned Kimmel\u2019s comments<\/a> and urged affiliates should \u201cpush back\u201d on ABC. Hours later, the suspension news broke.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tA source told The Hollywood Reporter Kimmel was prepared to address the backlash on Wednesday night\u2019s canceled show. He planned to explain what he said and demonstrate how it was taken out of context. The source added that Kimmel was not planning on apologizing. He felt that what he said did not need an apology.<\/p>\n

\n\tLate night TV legend David Letterman shared his thoughts<\/a> on the matter earlier on Thursday during a panel at the Atlantic Festival, where he referred to President Donald Trump\u2019s presidency as an \u201cauthoritarian criminal administration.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou know, I just, I feel bad about this because we all see where this is going, correct? It\u2019s managed media. And it\u2019s no good. It\u2019s silly. It\u2019s ridiculous,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd you can\u2019t go around firing somebody because you\u2019re fearful or trying to suck up to an authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office. That\u2019s just not how this works.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCurrent Late Night host Seth Meyers stressed the importance of free speech<\/a> during his Thursday night episode and offered support for Kimmel.<\/p>\n
