AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cNotting Hill\u201d star noted that her co-star\u00a0Ayo Edebiri and the movie\u2019s director, Luca Guadagnino, were also starstruck.<\/p>\n<p>Roberts recounted, \u201cAllan [Mandelbaum], our producer, he came in, and he goes, \u2018Chlo\u00eb should just be here in a couple minutes.\u2019 And I look up, and Ayo looks up, and we match eyes. Deadline via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then, like a minute later, the doorbell rang,\u201d continued Roberts, \u201cand Hazel goes, \u2018I\u2019m leaving through the garage.\u2019 And truly we were so excited and intimidated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sevigny has won a Golden Globe and been nominated for an Academy Award, an Emmy and a SAG Award throughout her career. The actress has worked in both television and film and has been recognized for her days in fashion.<\/p>\n<p>Sevigny modeled for brands like Louis Vuitton and Miu\u00a0Miu and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/2008\/feb\/16\/fashion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">worked as a fashion designer<\/a> in the \u201990s.<\/p>\n<p>Julia Roberts, Michael Stuhlbarg, Chloe Sevigny in \u201cAfter the Hunt.\u201d \u00a9MGM\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the Hunt\u201d follows a college professor (Roberts) who \u201cfinds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil, [Edebiri, 29], levels an accusation against one of her colleagues, [Andrew Garfield, 42], and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt32159989\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">per the film\u2019s synopsis<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Roberts confessed that the movie could cause a bit of an uproar in the wake of the #MeToo movement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of old arguments that get rejuvenated in this movie in a way that does create conversation,\u201d Roberts explained in August, per\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/news\/general-news\/after-the-hunt-movie-julia-roberts-venice-film-festival-1236356701\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. \u201cThe best part of your question is you talking about how you all came out of the theater\u00a0talking\u00a0about [the film], and that\u2019s how we wanted it to feel\u2014that everybody comes out with all these different feelings, emotions and points of views.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chloe Sevigny, Julia Roberts in the 2025 crime thriller.  \u00a9MGM\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/09\/entertainment\/reporter-addresses-viral-interview-with-ayo-edebiri-julia-roberts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">promoting the film at the Venice Film Festival<\/a>, an interview moment with the Oscar winner, Edebiri and Garfield went viral after the journalist excluded the \u201cBear\u201d vet from a question about Black Lives Matter and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/08\/entertainment\/paula-deen-approves-of-matt-lauers-cancellation-in-tiff-doc-some-people-deserve-it\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the #MeToo movement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Italian reporter Federica Polidoro for ArtsLife TV asked, \u201cWhat have we lost in the politically correct era, and what we have to expect in Hollywood after the #MeToo movement and the Black Lives Matter are done?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She specified that her question was only to Roberts and Garfield, to which the \u201cErin Brockovich\u201d star asked Polidoro to repeat the question, noting, \u201cWith your sunglasses on, I can\u2019t tell which of us you\u2019re talking to.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Luca Guadagnino, Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival 2025. IPA\/INSTARimages<\/p>\n<p>The interviewer then repeated that her question was posed for the two co-stars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that that\u2019s not for me, and I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s purposeful if it\u2019s not for me \u2026 [but] I don\u2019t think it\u2019s done,\u201d Edebiri interjected. \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s done at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHashtags might not be used as much but I do think that there\u2019s work being done by activists, by people every day that\u2019s beautiful, important work,\u201d the Emmy winner explained. \u201cThat\u2019s not finished, that\u2019s really, really active for a reason because this world\u2019s really charged. And that work isn\u2019t finished at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garfield said that both \u201cmovements are still absolutely alive,\u201d referring to Black Lives Matter and #MeToo, while Roberts quipped that the \u201cwork isn\u2019t finished at all.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield during an interview in Venice.<\/p>\n<p>Fans jumped on social media to voice their outrage, with one user<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/blewis1103\/status\/1964464181761233101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> writing on X,<\/a>\u00a0\u201cOne thing we\u2019re not talking enough about: how Ayo Edebiri *had* to be gracious in dealing with this appalling behavior and question because she would\u2019ve been criticized for being \u2018unprofessional\u2019 or \u2018rude\u2019 or every other dogwhistle in the bag.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Polidoro later<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DOUHWCuCEmv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u00a0took to Instagram<\/a>\u00a0to address the sitdown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing an interview, I have been subjected to personal insults and attacks because of a question that, for some reason, was not well received by some members of the public,\u201d she began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI find it striking that those who unjustly accuse me of racism and consider themselves custodians of justice find acceptable violent language, personal attacks and cyberbullying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Julia Roberts poses on Instagram. Instagram\/juliaroberts<\/p>\n<p>Polidoro expressed that she wanted to \u201cclarify\u201d that she has interviewed \u201cpeople of every background and ethnicity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She concluded that her own family is \u201cmulti-ethnic, matriarchal and feminist, with a significant history of immigration\u2026\u2026.
