Flights at both Dallas Love Field and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport should expect delays through at least 5 p.m. Friday due to equipment issues, the Federal Aviation Administration<\/a> said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As of 3:30 p.m. Friday, the FAA had also put up ground stops for arriving flights at virtually every significant airport across North Texas, including Meacham, Alliance, Addison, McKinney, Arlington and Dallas Executive.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The ground stop for American Airlines flights at DFW International Airport has been extended until 10 p.m. Friday, according to the FAA’s National Airspace System Status dashboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Equipment issues delay North Texas flights<\/p>\n

“The FAA is slowing flights into Dallas Love Field and Dallas- Fort Worth International Airport due to a reported equipment issues at Dallas TRACON. The FAA is investigating the cause,” the agency said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The agency confirmed to CBS News that the equipment issues are “a telephone outage that does not involve the FAA’s equipment.”\u00a0 <\/p>\n

Check flight times<\/p>\n

“Passengers should check with their airline for the most up-to-date flight status or accommodation information,” said a statement from Dallas Love Field Communications Team.<\/p>\n

As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, DFW Airport reported departure delays at an average of 35 minutes and increasing, according to the flight tracking website Flight Aware.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As of 6 p.m. Friday, Flight Aware’s Misery Map reported 668 delayed flights at DFW Airport and 167 delayed flights at Dallas Love Field.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Second day of delays<\/p>\n

DFW Airport also reported a ground stop for arriving flights the day prior, just after 4 p.m. Thursday. Thursday’s delays were caused by a “telecommunication issue that impacted facilities within Fort Worth Air Route Traffic Control Center,” the FAA said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

American Airlines issues Travel Alert\u00a0<\/p>\n

Due to the delays, North Texas based American Airlines issued a Travel Alert. This means that change fees are waived for American Airline flights traveling to\/ through\/ from DFW Airport.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The FAA reported an issue involving the telecommunications provider for the air traffic control facility that oversees the airspace in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. As a result, the FAA has severely limited flights into both DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field, which is affecting our\u2026<\/p>\n
