Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has commented on why Square Enix is coming out with Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined before remakes of Dragon Quest 4, 5, and 6.<\/p>\n

Last week\u2019s Dragon Quest 7 remake announcement came as a surprise. For one thing, we\u2019re not too far away from the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake. After that, one would think that Square Enix would move on to Dragon Quest 4 \u2013 but that isn\u2019t the case.<\/p>\n

Horii appeared during a live stream on the \u201cYuubou & Mashirito no KosoKoso Housoukyoku\u201d channel with co-host Kazuhiko \u201cMashirito\u201d Torishima where this was discussed. Mashirito brought up how it\u2019s \u201cnot 4-5-6 but 7\u201d. In response, Horii said: \u201cA lot of things are moving around, but it was just done first by chance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mashirito went on to imply that \u201cIt\u2019s like it does not mean that they are not doing 4-5-6\u201d. However, Horii tried to avoid speaking on that further by noting \u201cI didn\u2019t say it\u201d three times.<\/p>\n

Lastly,\u00a0Horii and MC Naz Chris had the following conversation, courtesy of RPG Site<\/a>:<\/p>\n

Yuji Horii:<\/strong> \u201cAs I said just now, we want to make them playable on ongoing platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n

Naz Chris:<\/strong> \u201cDoes that mean 7 is simply progressing smoothly?\u201d<\/p>\n

Yuji Horii:<\/strong> \u201cWell yeah, there was also a period for [its] development\u2026 and we do have a lot of progress.\u201d<\/p>\n

Naz Chris:<\/strong> \u201cLike, for example, 4 had a lot of [story] chapter divisions, maybe that\u2019s why it could be taking more time?\u201d<\/p>\n

Yuji Horii:<\/strong> \u201cWell, well\u2026\u201d *laughs*<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

All of this would seem to imply that we could be getting more Dragon Quest remakes \u2013 like Dragon Quest 4 \u2013 in the future. However, nothing has been officially announced. For now fans can look forward to Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake on October 30, 2025 and Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined on February 5, 2026.<\/p>\n
