{"id":240918,"date":"2025-09-20T07:33:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T07:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/240918\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T07:33:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T07:33:09","slug":"crean-lutheran-football-starts-strong-rolls-to-victory-against-la-serna-orange-county-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/240918\/","title":{"rendered":"Crean Lutheran football starts strong, rolls to victory against La Serna \u2013 Orange County Register"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IRVINE \u2013 With a high-voltage offense so electric it literally fried wiring, Crean Lutheran jumped out to a 24-0 lead and cruised past visiting La Serna 38-14 on Friday at Crean Lutheran High School.<\/p>\n<p>Saints quarterback Caden Jones completed 19 of 20 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns, and senior Dillon Booth ran for two touchdowns and caught three passes for 102 yards.<\/p>\n<p>Taiga Takada and Bryce Coleman caught touchdowns, and Luke Kyser caught three passes for 68 yards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had a tough time in the first quarter,\u201d Crean Lutheran coach Rick Curtis said, \u201cand we just came out tonight on fire and that\u2019s what we\u2019ve been looking for. (Photo by Zach Cavanagh)<\/p>\n<p>La Serna broke the shutout bid late in the third quarter on a 20-yard strike from Grady Long to Alex Gaytan. Elias Huerta scored on a 77-yard run late in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Crean Lutheran (5-0) is off next week before opening its Epsilon League schedule at Foothill on Oct. 4. La Serna (2-3) hosts Edison next Friday, Sept. 26.<\/p>\n<p>Crean Lutheran\u2019s offense was so hot in the first half that the public address announcer\u2019s speaker literally and actually caught on fire.<\/p>\n<p>After an opening three-and-out by La Serna, Crean Lutheran immediately struck on offense, with a 65-yard bomb from Jones to Booth and a 6-yard touchdown strike to Takada.<\/p>\n<p>Evan Mack pulled in an interception three plays later, and the Saints put up a field goal for a 10-0 lead.<\/p>\n<p>Crean Lutheran pushed La Serna backwards on their next three-and-out series, and a 26-yard dart from Jones to Luke Kyser paved the way for a 10-yard touchdown run by Booth. It was 17-0 Saints just nine minutes in.<\/p>\n<p>La Serna\u2019s longest gain of the first half came on a fumble recovery on a Crean Lutheran punt return, but the Saints ended the quarter with a 12-yard sack to drive the Lancers into negative overall yardage.<\/p>\n<p>Crean Lutheran went back to work to open the second quarter with a four-play scoring drive capped on a 10-yard pass to Bryce Coleman for a 24-0 lead.<\/p>\n<p>La Serna earned its only first down of the second half four minutes into the second quarter, but both the Lancers and Saints defenses stood up for the rest of the half.<\/p>\n<p>At the break, Crean Lutheran maintained its 24-0 lead with a 214-4 advantage in offensive yards.
