It was the second no-no by an American League pitcher. It happened on Amateur Day, when a procession of 200 young baseball players interrupted the game \u2014 with a brass band leading the marchers \u2014 during the seventh inning. Postgame, the youngsters presented Charles Comiskey with <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-white-sox-win-and-tie-c\/181352335\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201ca handsome fishing outfit,\u201d<\/a> the Tribune reported.<\/p>\n<p>White Sox pitchers have thrown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2021\/04\/15\/chicago-white-sox-pitchers-have-thrown-20-no-hitters-since-1902-including-3-perfect-games-relive-them-all-here\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more no-hitters<\/a> than any other American League team.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Jim Londos vs. Ed &quot;Strangler&quot; Lewis in front of an audience of 35,275 at Wrigley Field on Sept. 20, 1934. (Charles Osgood\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1984:<\/strong> Singer <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-obituary-songwriter-ste\/181351997\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Goodman<\/a> died in a Seattle hospital after a 16-year battle with leukemia. He was 36.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2020\/04\/10\/john-prine-and-steve-goodman-used-to-share-small-chicago-stages-wish-you-could-have-been-there\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">native Chicagoan and avid Cubs fan<\/a> wrote \u201cGo Cubs Go\u201d and \u201cCity of New Orleans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Bishop Blase J. (Abel Uribe\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>2014:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2025\/08\/15\/cardinal-cupich-chicago-anniversary-50\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blase Cupich<\/a>, bishop of Spokane, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2014\/09\/20\/reports-blase-cupich-to-replace-cardinal-george\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">appointed<\/a> archbishop of Chicago by Pope Francis.
