{"id":241719,"date":"2025-09-20T15:18:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T15:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/241719\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T15:18:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T15:18:11","slug":"he-didnt-quit-i-fired-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/241719\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018He didn\u2019t quit, I fired him!\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/19\/us-news\/trump-calls-for-firing-of-us-attorney-investigating-tish-james\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The US attorney investigating mortgage fraud allegations<\/a> against New York state Attorney General Letitia James didn\u2019t resign, he was fired, President Trump declared on Truth Social.<\/p>\n<p>Erik Siebert, the top prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia, told staff he resigned Friday amid reports he was facing pressure from the Trump administration over the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/15\/us-news\/special-attorney-ed-martin-checks-out-tish-james-mortgage-fraud-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James probe<\/a>, which has yet to result in criminal charges.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday I withdrew the Nomination of Erik Siebert as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, when I was informed that he received the UNUSUALLY STRONG support of the two absolutely terrible, sleazebag Democrat Senators, from the Great State of Virginia,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/115234681538876098\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump posted<\/a> on Truth Social, just after midnight Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump says he withdrew Siebert\u2019s nomination after the prosecutor received support from two Democratic senators.  mediaite<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe didn\u2019t quit, I fired him!\u201d the president asserted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext time let him go in as a Democrat, not a Republican,\u201d Trump added. \u201cThank you for your attention to this matter.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Siebert, whom Trump nominated in May, had yet to be confirmed by the Senate. He announced his resignation after the president made clear he no longer wanted the prosecutor around.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want him out,\u201d Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Friday afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump said he changed his mind on nominating Siebert after he learned that Virginia\u2019s two Democratic senators, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, had expressed support for him.<\/p>\n<p>Trump nominated Siebert in May but he had not yet been confirmed by the Senate. AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have other people, judges, and I have US attorneys for other states where I have the same situation. And they can\u2019t get approved. So when I learned that they voted for him, I said, \u2018I don\u2019t really want him.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Siebert emailed his team in the Eastern District \u2013 after Trump\u2019s Oval Office remarks \u2013 that he had turned in his resignation paperwork, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/trump-administration-threatens-fire-us-prosecutor-overseeing-letitia-james-case-2025-09-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multiple<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/us-attorney-plans-resign-amid-pressure-trump-after\/story?id=125750006&amp;cid=social_twitter_abcn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outlets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis evening, I submitted my resignation as Interim U.S. Attorney for [Eastern District of Virginia],\u201d Siebert wrote. \u201cFor the last eight months, I have had the pleasure of leading the finest and most exceptional of DOJ employees who care deeply about our nation and our EDVA community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you for the lessons you have taught me, the sacrifices you have made, and the pursuit of justice you strive for every day,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Siebert had reportedly been under pressure from the Trump administration related to the Tish James mortgage fraud probe.
