STANFORD\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Marco Reus scored in the 70th minute<\/a> and the Galaxy<\/a> played the San Jos\u00e9 Earthquakes to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night in the 104th edition of the California Cl\u00e1sico.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy (1-14-5) are unbeaten in their past eight road matches (Stanford Stadium and PayPal Park) across all competitions against San Jos\u00e9 (7-8-5) dating to June 26, 2021.<\/p>\n

San Jos\u00e9 native Beau Leroux opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a shot into the upper-right corner for his fourth of the season. He settled Mark-Anthony Kaye\u2019s cross with his left foot and curled in a shot with his right from the top of the 18-yard box.<\/p>\n

San Jos\u00e9 goalkeeper Daniel stopped an initial attempt in the 70th, but it bounced right back to Reus for an easy touch home. It was Reus\u2019 first game wearing the captain\u2019s armband.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarco has been outstanding in these games,\u201d Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said of Reus, who has contributed 10 goals in 10 matches. \u201c… He\u2019s just such an intelligent player. He is so just smooth and taking the ball under pressure in these games where teams are trying to match up one-on-one, he\u2019s good, his touch is soft, he uses his body very well to protect the ball.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel made several key saves. He came out of his area to deny Joseph Paintsil on a one-on-one opportunity in the 60th. He also got a hand on Gabriel Pec\u2019s shot on a counterattack in the 88th.<\/p>\n

The Galaxy entered with just three of a possible 33 points<\/a> on the road this season. The team hopes to build on the tie and push for more wins moving forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you [saw] our front guys last year, the way they were just scoring basically kind of for fun, obviously this year has been a different story,\u201d Galaxy defender Mathias Jorgensen, who typically goes by just the nickame Zanka. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to work with them to make sure we put them in those situations to be successful as much as possible. We got to keep supporting them even though at the moment it\u2019s not really going our way. May need a little bit more chances than we hoped for to score goals. <\/p>\n

\u201cObviously we do everything as a team. We lose together. We miss and make mistakes together. Hopefully at some point we\u2019re going to transition and kind of evolve that into scoring a lot of goals.\u201d<\/p>\n
