Two San Antonio-based companies \u2013 beloved grocery chain H-E-B<\/strong> and municipal electric utility company CPS Energy <\/strong>\u2013 and their top-tier corporate environments have just been praised on Forbes’ inaugural ranking<\/a> of “America’s Best Employers for Company Culture.”<\/p>\n

Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to survey over 218,000 workers at companies with at least 1,000 employees throughout the U.S, and relied on data from the past three years of employee surveys (with an emphasis on the most recent data and recommendations from current employees). Companies don’t pay to be included, Forbes additionally noted.<\/p>\n

Among the final list of 600 U.S. companies, 30 Texas employers were praised for providing “a unifying company culture that inspires a sense of purpose and loyalty among employees.”<\/p>\n

H-E-B climbed into the No. 18 spot statewide and ranked 445th nationally. Earlier this year, the grocery company was hailed as one of the best places to work<\/a> by U.S. News and World Report, proving exactly how having a great company culture can also improve the service provided to customers.<\/p>\n

The supermarket is also expanding its footprint in San Antonio with a new location<\/a> in the booming Far West Side, all to the tune of $29 million.<\/p>\n

The corporate culture at CPS Energy ranked No. 22 in Texas and No. 551 nationwide. According to the company’s profile on Forbes, CPS Energy was founded in 1942 and currently employs about 3,200 people.<\/p>\n

According to the report’s research, employers with a successful company culture don’t rely on “surface-level perks” such as free lunches, wellness apps, and flex days to inspire employee engagement. Instead, employers who focused on conflict resolution and coaching their managers saw a reduction in employee burnout and an increase in “perceptions of fairness and leadership care.”<\/p>\n

“In fact, the researchers<\/a> noted that when ‘senior leaders changed how they led \u2014 how they ran meetings, gave feedback, made decisions and responded to challenge \u2014 trust scores rose by an average of 26 percent,'” the report said.<\/p>\n

Other Texas employers with great company culture
<\/strong>Elsewhere in Texas, 15 North Texas companies, three Austin-based companies, and 10 Houston-area companies were included on Forbes’ list of employers with the best company culture.<\/p>\n

The three Austin-area companies that earned spots on the list include Austin Community College District (No. 56), Round Rock-based Dell Technologies (No. 207), and Keller Williams Realty (No. 352).<\/p>\n
