Flights in and out of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport were delayed Saturday afternoon as thunderstorms moved through the area.<\/p>\n
As of 8:30 p.m., the average delay for flights out of O’Hare was approximately 30 minutes, though the Federal Aviation Administration projected the delays would increase. Earlier in the day, the average delay for departing flights was approximately 90 minutes around 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Flights into the airport were also delayed by the storms. As of 6 p.m., flights arriving to O’Hare were delayed an average of 41 minutes due to thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. However, by 8:30 p.m., the FAA did not show delays for flights into O’Hare. <\/p>\n
The FAA says staffing is also contributing to the delays.<\/p>\n
According to the National Weather Service, scattered thunderstorms are likely in the Chicago area through Saturday evening, with potential torrential downpours and gusty winds.<\/p>\n
