This week on Dezeen<\/a>, Grimshaw<\/a> founder Nicholas Grimshaw<\/a> passed away at the age of 85 and we reported from events in Copenhagen, Singapore, Helsinki, Oslo, London and Lake Como.<\/p>\n Nicholas Grimshaw, whose best-known projects include the Eden Project<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0International Terminal at Waterloo Station<\/a>, died this week aged 85.<\/p>\n The winner of the RIBA Gold Medal in 2019<\/a>, he was one of the UK’s best-known and highly respected architects, as one of the early pioneers of the high-tech movement.<\/p>\n Following his death, we looked back at 10\u00a0high-tech highlights from his five-decade-long career<\/a>.<\/p>\n In London this week, the annual London Design Festival<\/a> took place. Highlights from the festival included a sculpture by Lee Broom\u00a0comprising dozens of pulsing illuminated glass shades<\/a> and a corn cob house made using mud from HS2 excavation sites at the V&A<\/a>.<\/p>\n Among the launches as the festival was a plywood furniture collection by Foster + Partners Industrial Design<\/a> (pictured) and a high-backed sofa by Pearson Lloyd designs designed to “deliver the right posture”<\/a>.<\/p>\n Also opening this week was the inaugural Copenhagen Architecture Biennial<\/a>, which included the hand-built Inside Out, Downside Up pavilion by Slaatto Morsb\u00f8l<\/a>.<\/p>\n We also reported on the 20th anniversary edition of Helsinki Design Week<\/a>, where we rounded up\u00a0five enduring Finnish\u00a0design principles at the country’s biggest industry festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n While in Singapore, we reported on the\u00a0Unnatural History Museum of Singapore<\/a>, which features cyborg cockroaches and bee drones, as part of Singapore Design Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n And in Italy, we rounded up seven furnishings by emerging designers<\/a> on display at Lake Como Design Festival<\/a>. In Oslo, we covered an exhibition for Designers’ Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the US, we reported on the American lighting companies that are using 3D-printing and digital manufacturing<\/a> to try and fix the “extremely broken” lighting manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n “We are not going back to the 20th-century manufacturing system where there’s a very high set-up cost and the only way that you could make something work is by manufacturing it overseas to essentially utilise cheap lower labour costs,” Gantri founder\u00a0Ian Yang\u00a0told Dezeen.<\/p>\n Popular projects this week include a series of floating pinecone-shaped huts designed to shelter ducks<\/a>, an underground museum by Herzog & de Meuron and landscape designer Piet Oudolf<\/a>\u00a0in Philadelphia and a safari resort in Kenya<\/a>.<\/p>\n Our latest roundups include homes illuminated by stylish skylights<\/a> and buildings enveloped in rustic rough-sawn timber cladding<\/a>.<\/p>\n This week on Dezeen<\/strong><\/p>\n This week on Dezeen is our regular roundup of the week’s top news stories.
