Priscilla Presley didn’t tell Elvis that Robert Kardashian was in her bedroom. He’d ‘have gone ballistic, maybe literally.’<\/p>\n

Priscilla Presley dated many famous men after divorcing Elvis, but she kept her relationship with Robert Kardashian to herself.<\/p>\n

In her new memoir \u201cSoftly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis<\/a>\u201d (Grand Central Publishing, 320 pp., on sale Tuesday, Sept. 23<\/a>), she recalls leaping out of bed with Kardashian, who was sound asleep, to take a call from the King of Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll at 2 in the morning.<\/p>\n

Elvis would \u201chave gone ballistic, maybe literally, if he\u2019d known Robert was in my bedroom,” she writes in an early copy of the book provided to USA TODAY. \u201cElvis always carried a loaded gun, sometimes more than one.\u201d<\/p>\n

It never occurred to him that Priscilla might have been asleep. And \u201cit had certainly never occurred to him that I might be with another man.\u201d She recalls Elvis brimming with enthusiasm as he described a great show that night (\u201cDamn, I was knocking \u2018em out!\u201d).<\/p>\n

After their chat, she slipped back under the covers, and neither man was none the wiser. “He never knew Elvis had called. And Elvis never knew about Robert.”<\/p>\n

She clarifies elsewhere in the book, though, \u201cHe never called me when I was making love to someone!\u201d<\/p>\n

Priscilla, now 80, met Robert through Joan Esposito \u2212 ex-wife of Elvis\u2019 road manager, \u201cMemphis Mafia\u201d member Joe Esposito \u2212 who had started dating Robert\u2019s brother, Tom. (They went on to marry.)<\/p>\n

Though Robert wanted to marry Priscilla, she knew within a few months that he wasn\u2019t her future: \u201cI wasn\u2019t ready to marry again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRobert was a sweet man, and I liked him,\u201d she adds. But \u201cRobert had a demanding job as an attorney, working long hours five days a week. By the time the weekend rolled around, all he wanted was a quiet night at home with popcorn and a good movie. It was fine at first, but I gradually grew restless.\u201d<\/p>\n

They remained friends, however, and Kim Kardashian called Priscilla from the hospital in 2003, when Robert was dying<\/a> with esophageal cancer, so they could speak for a final time.<\/p>\n

\u201cRobert and I had one last conversation before he died,\u201d she writes. \u201cHe was the kindest of men, and I remember him with great affection.\u201d<\/p>\n

After their split, Kardashian famously went on to marry Kris Jenner<\/a> in 1978 and have four kids: Kourtney, Kim, Khlo\u00e9 and Rob. Kris later married Caitlyn Jenner \u2212 who had previously been married to Elvis\u2019 post-Priscilla girlfriend Linda Thompson \u2212 and they had two children: Kendall and Kylie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Priscilla Presley didn’t tell Elvis that Robert Kardashian was in her bedroom.
