{"id":244172,"date":"2025-09-21T15:32:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-21T15:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/244172\/"},"modified":"2025-09-21T15:32:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-21T15:32:09","slug":"performers-twirl-jump-spin-bringing-trolley-dances-to-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/244172\/","title":{"rendered":"Performers twirl, jump, spin, bringing Trolley Dances to life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you think of public art, you might think of murals or a sculpture in a downtown plaza. <\/p>\n<p>Trolley Dances is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegodancetheater.org\/trolley-dances\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unique take<\/a> on the concept, with 45 local dancers bringing custom choreographed performances to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdmts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Metropolitan Transit System<\/a> stations.<\/p>\n<p>Audiences follow along from station to station. The tour, which began Saturday, made stops at Fashion Valley Transit Center, Hazard Center and the Fenton Parkway Trolley Station. Performances start at 10 a.m. Sunday and continue until 3 p.m.; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ticketleap.events\/tickets\/sddt-7\/2025-trolley-dances#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tickets remain<\/a> for the afternoon slots.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegodancetheater.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Diego Dance Theater<\/a>, this year\u2019s collaborators \u2013 the event began 27 years ago \u2013include the Town &amp; Country Resort, Hazard Center, Ultra Star Cinemas, SDSU Mission Valley River Park and Mission Valley branch library.<\/p>\n<p>The featured dances include \u201cTela y Tierra\u201d by Megan Curet, \u201cEmbers Imprint\u201d by Blythe Barton, \u201cReturn\u201d by Lavina Rich, \u201cSlip Slidin Away\u201d by Jean Issacs, \u201cWhat of Water?\u201d by Bernard Brown and \u201cTethered\u201dby Odessa Mae Uno.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a little bit about the 2025 Trolley Dances choreographers:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uno \u2013 She received her BFA in Dance from California Institute of the Arts where she studied performance and choreography. She has most recently performed with DISCO RIOT, Fresh Congress Dance and Maraya Performing Arts.<\/li>\n<li>Brown \u2013 the artistic director of Bernard Brown\/bbmoves choreographs for stage, specific sites, film and opera at various events, including The Getty, On The Boards, REDCAT, Dance Camera West and American Dance Festival\u2019s ADF Movies by Movers.<\/li>\n<li>Curet \u2013 Curet\u2019s trans-disciplinary practice weaves together contemporary dance, social practice, healing modalities and fieldwork, centering themes of migration, memory, collective care and \u201cdiasporic resilience.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Barton \u2013 earned her BFA in Dance from Chapman University, where she was honored with an Excellence in Choreography Award. She continued her education at Florida State University on scholarship, receiving an MFA in Dance.<\/li>\n<li>Rich \u2013 focuses on exploring the human experience through movement. She studied dance at Grossmont College and then UCSD and has performed with many local companies and international artists.
