SANTA CLARITA, CALIF. \u2014\u00a0<\/strong>The University of San Diego women’s cross country team stood out,\u00a0placing second overall, beaten only by a tiebreaker, while the men finished ninth\u00a0at The Master’s Invitational at Central Park in Santa Clarita, Calif..<\/p>\n “The women’s group is growing up quick,” Guarino said. “Their chemistry is blending as they have gained trust for one another.”

\nThe USD women collected 78 points, equal with WCC foes LMU who only edged the Toreros on a tiebreaker despite San Diego having all scorers in the top 25.\u00a0Freshman Clare Boneau<\/a> led the way for the\u00a0team in the 6K race, with a time of 22:32.8\u00a0in 10th place.\u00a0The youth continued taking over as freshmen Sydney Tackett<\/a> and Brooklyn Hom<\/a> were right behind, finishing 11th and 13th place respectively. Experience rounded up the caboose as junior Camryn Kozak<\/a>\u00a0and senior Nathalie Green<\/a> completed the scoring contingent.

\nOn the men’s side, the Toreros\u00a0claimed a ninth place finish overall out of 20 teams in the 8K race with 311 points. Graduate student Jake Coleman<\/a> led the way for the men’s team again,\u00a0finishing 11th overall with a time of 25:18:1, with sophomore Michael Ivory<\/a> second on the team racing with a time of 26:30. Freshman Maxwell Gibbons<\/a> and juniors Jack DeVries<\/a> and Anthony Lenzini<\/a> rounded out the scoring.\u00a0
