The head of controversial <\/strong>drug rehabilitation service Shalom House says he will resign so he can speak out against “mass migration”.<\/p>\n

The Christian-based registered charity was once dubbed the “strictest” in Australia due to its uncompromising regime<\/a>, including a requirement participants sign over their legal rights to financial decisions.<\/p>\n

The program is run by former drug dealer and addict <\/strong>Peter Lyndon-James, and does not receive any government funding.<\/p>\n

Mr Lyndon-James has been an outspoken critic of “mass migration”, appearing at anti-immigration rallies, and posting to social media.<\/p>\n

“As a Shalom community, we (the staff & residents) have taken an informed view: MASS Migration must stop,” he wrote last week.<\/p>\n

But in a post on social media on Sunday night, Mr Lyndon-James apologised.<\/p>\n

“I wish to make it clear that these views are my personal opinions and not the views of Shalom House as an organisation,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I am not against immigration, but I do hold personal concerns about mass migration.”<\/p>\n

Mr Lyndon-James apologised for causing any “offence or harm” to immigrants living in Australia, and asked for forgiveness.<\/p>\n

‘Passion to speak out’<\/p>\n

But just two hours later, Mr Lyndon-James made another post indicating he would resign so he could speak freely.<\/p>\n

“I feel that I can no longer operate in the role as CEO due to not being able to speak out on matters that I feel led to,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Therefore I can no longer work in the role with a muzzle on me when the passion to speak out is so strong within me.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It comes just weeks after anti-immigration rallies across the nation<\/a> saw thousands in attendance, including small groups of Neo-Nazis marching at events in capital cities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr Lyndon-James spoke as a\u00a0guest at the rally in Perth on August 31, during which he said, “our government is not listening to the voices of Australians”.<\/p>\n

“This rally is not about immigration, it is about mass migration,” he said at the rally.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Right now, Australia’s values are eroding.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are proud to be a multicultural nation, but what is happening today is not immigration as we have always known it.”<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In his latest social media post, Mr Lyndon-James said stepping aside would allow him to “speak out respectfully as I feel led without impact to Shalom”.<\/p>\n

“Mass migration is not ok and I feel that I must speak out against it,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Lyndon-James said his employment would end on January 1, 2026.<\/p>\n

He was recognised in 2018 as a WA Local Hero as part of the Australian of the Year awards for his work with Shalom House.<\/p>\n

“Wearing his hard-knock heart on his sleeve, Peter works intensively with program residents to help them face their demons, identify past failures and establish future goals,” the award tribute read.<\/p>\n

History of controversy<\/p>\n

Shalom House has been embroiled in more than a decade of controversy and legal disputes with local councils and neighbours.<\/p>\n

Its lack of government accreditation \u2014 which Mr Lyndon-James has always disputed \u2014 has been a key criticism.<\/p>\n

“If you find things that we’re not doing that we should be doing, help us to see what we can’t see, so we can implement [it],” he said previously.<\/p>\n

The organisation has been met with public backlash when attempting to expand into different suburbs, including the City of Joondalup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Shalom House participants follow a strict routine filled with work, church, and activities.<\/p>\n

They’re not allowed to smoke, drink, or use any drugs. They can’t even swear.<\/p>\n

Christian rehab facility invites critics to visit<\/a><\/p>\n

Controversial rehabilitation centre Shalom House has been mired in a decade of controversy, but now it’s throwing its doors open amid community concerns over its next move.<\/p>\n

They are also required to sign over limited power of attorney, which Mr Lyndon-James said allowed Shalom House to assist with financial management.<\/p>\n

“We have 160 odd residents, and we’re sitting there, and we’re on Centrelink, and we’re trying to do something \u2026 it also helps us contact agencies on your behalf who owe you money,” he said in a filmed online seminar in 2024.<\/p>\n

“We can contact the banks, car loans, personal loans, and we just get everything frozen.<\/p>\n

“When you come in, we do a financial plan, we work out how much it is you owe \u2026 because you won’t be working for the next three to six months.”<\/p>\n

Mr Lyndon-James has been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n
