I’m Katie Garner, your News4JAX meteorologist on The Weather Authority, here with a look at what you can expect as you get your day started.

Most spots around our area are kicking things off in the 70s, with Jacksonville sitting at 71 degrees and Mayport a bit warmer at 78 degrees. Things are super calm on the wind front this morning—it’s so still, you might not even notice a breeze.

Now, here’s what you might want to keep in mind as you head out: even though things start dry, conditions are forecast to shift by mid-afternoon. By 2 p.m., temperatures around Jacksonville will be close to 84 degrees, and there’s a 40 percent chance for some pop-up showers and storms.

These scattered storms aren’t expected to be a washout or stick around all day, but you may want to have a poncho handy at work and for the kids, just in case.

Showers should begin to pop up after 10 or 11 a.m., especially near Jacksonville, north into Georgia, and south near St. Augustine. If a storm finds your neighborhood, it could get a little lively—some lightning, maybe a quick downpour. That said, not everyone will see rain, and the high-pressure system north of us is expected to help keep most rain chances a bit lower.

For the next 12 hours, we’re only looking at a 5 to 10 percent chance for rain at any given moment—so most of your day stays dry, just keep an eye out for those quick pop-ups!

Hurricane Gabrielle: What you need to know

I know tropical activity is on everybody’s mind, and right now Hurricane Gabrielle is holding steady out in the Atlantic. The latest advisory shows winds at 90 miles per hour and moving slowly north-northwest at about 10 miles per hour.

The main concern for us will be increased rip currents along our coast. Gabrielle is not forecast to make landfall anywhere near northeast Florida. Most impacts will be felt closer to Bermuda.

Gabrielle is expected to strengthen to a Category 2 as it moves past our area, but for us locally, the biggest thing to look out for is rougher surf. If you’re headed to the beach, please be cautious and keep up with the latest updates from The Weather Authority.

Two more tropical systems being watched

The tropics are revving up, which is not uncommon this time of year. Besides Gabrielle, there are two other systems out in the Atlantic being monitored for development.

One system has about a 10 to 30 percent chance of forming, and the other stands at a 10 to 60 percent chance. Warm waters and low wind shear could help these systems grow, so we’re watching them closely here at News4JAX.

I’ll be tracking all of these developments for you, and as always—if you catch any weather photos or videos today, send them in to SnapJAX at news4jax.com/snapjax.

Copyright 2025 by WJXT News4JAX – All rights reserved.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Good Monday morning, friends!
