After what\u2019s felt like<\/a> (and mostly has been<\/a>) years of waiting, Lucasfilm has released the first official trailer for\u00a0The Mandalorian and Grogu, the next\u00a0Star Wars film.<\/p>\n

Today\u2014timed at the height of a public backlash<\/a> against Disney for capitulating to the demands<\/a> of the Trump administration by censoring late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over comments made about<\/a> the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk\u2014Disney and Lucasfilm released the first official footage from The Mandalorian and Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau, the movie (Lucasfilm\u2019s first\u00a0Star Wars theatrical release<\/a> since the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga with\u00a0The Rise of Skywalker in 2019) takes place after the events of\u00a0The Mandalorian season 3, which concluded with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) formally allying himself with the nascent New Republic as a gun for hire.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the official logline from Lucasfilm: \u201cThe evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mandalorian and Grogu will see the return<\/a> of\u00a0Star Wars Rebels character Garazeb \u201cZeb\u201d Orellios (voiced by Steven Blum) after a brief cameo in\u00a0The Mandalorian season 3, and will also debut Sigourney Weaver as a new character. Information first revealed earlier this year<\/a> at\u00a0Star Wars Celebration Japan confirmed her character as a New Republic pilot and officer who will act at Djarin\u2019s liaison with the fledgling defense forces as they try to keep peace across the galaxy.<\/p>\n

The Mandalorian and Grogu will hit theaters May 22, 2026.<\/p>\n
