{"id":246577,"date":"2025-09-22T15:09:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-22T15:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/246577\/"},"modified":"2025-09-22T15:09:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T15:09:14","slug":"gridlock-alert-for-nyc-as-united-nations-general-assembly-returns-nbc-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/246577\/","title":{"rendered":"Gridlock alert for NYC as United Nations General Assembly returns \u2013 NBC New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Yorkers know it as the busiest traffic time of the year. <\/p>\n<p>Monday marked the start of the annual United Nations General Assembly &#8212; a.k.a. gridlock mania. <\/p>\n<p>The annual gathering on Manhattan&#8217;s east side triggers the city&#8217;s yearly &#8220;Gridlock Alert&#8221; list, as security upgrades and a return trip by President Donald Trump will surely clog the streets all week long. <\/p>\n<p>Traffic data has shown that average vehicle speeds in the Midtown Central Business District during the General Assembly week drop to under 4 mph, which compares with a slightly more robust 6 to 7 mph on a usual day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gridlock.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Motorcades are the main reason for traffic headaches, as they crisscross the city while weaving in and out of traffic \u2014 including the usual marked green bike lanes.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line: Avoid midtown if using streets in any way.
