{"id":24673,"date":"2025-06-29T14:15:09","date_gmt":"2025-06-29T14:15:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/24673\/"},"modified":"2025-06-29T14:15:09","modified_gmt":"2025-06-29T14:15:09","slug":"bears-escape-wildwood-devon-wildlife-park-enclosure-and-feast-on-weeks-worth-of-honey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/24673\/","title":{"rendered":"Bears escape Wildwood Devon wildlife park enclosure and feast on week&#8217;s worth of honey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a scene that could have been from \u201cWinnie the Pooh,\u201d two young bears who escaped from their enclosure at a zoo in England were eventually discovered in a food storage area chowing down on honey and other snacks.<\/p>\n<p>Mish and Lucy, two 5-year-old European brown bears, sneaked out of their enclosure at wildlife park Wildwood Devon in southwest England Monday afternoon and headed straight for a staff-only food storage area, according to Facebook posts from Wildwood Devon.<\/p>\n<p>There, the duo feasted on a \u201cselection of snacks \u2014 including a week\u2019s worth of honey,\u201d as noted in one of the social media posts.<\/p>\n<p>The two bears were not a threat to the public during their escape, but all park visitors were moved into a secure building as a safety precaution.<\/p>\n<p>Mish and Lucy were then monitored through surveillance footage and on the ground until they made their way back to their enclosure, Wildwood Devon wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere\u2019s footage of Lucy caught red-handed, looking very pleased with herself after filling up in the food store, and both bears passed out afterward,\u201d the wildlife park said on Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>Wildwood Devon said the incident, which prompted a police response, was the result of an \u201coperational error.\u201d The wildlife park is now conducting a full internal investigation to determine how the bears escaped to prevent a similar incident from happening again.<\/p>\n<p>Two bears escaped from their enclosure in England and ate a \u201cweek\u2019s worth of honey.\u201d FOX News<\/p>\n<p>The food was in a \u201cstaff only\u201d area of the zoo. FOX News<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the structural integrity of the bear enclosure remains uncompromised, we take any operational lapse extremely seriously,\u201d Wildwood Devon wrote. \u201cWe remain fully committed to the highest standards of animal care, visitor safety and transparency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wildwood Devon, located on 40 acres of woodland and gardens in Devon, England, is home to a range of animals, including foxes, wolves, red squirrels and bears.<\/p>\n<p>Mish and Lucy are both 5 years old. FOX News<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, an Andean bear escaped from his enclosure at the St. Louis Zoo twice in one month.
