That added up to $2.15M in fines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>CLAY COUNTY, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 Clay County is growing &#8212; and so are the Orange Park town coffers fed by red light camera fines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to data provided by the Orange Park Police Department to the Orange Park Town Council, the town made more than $1.1 million from citations caught by red-light cameras over the last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Orange Park and Green Cove Springs are the only two municipalities in Northeast Florida that use red light cameras.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Town of Orange Park has eight cameras mounted at three intersections:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Kingsley Avenue\/U.S. 17 (Park Avenue)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>U.S. 17 (Park Avenue)\/Loring Avenue <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Kingsley Avenue\/Debarry Avenue<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to OPPD\u2019s report to the town council, the three intersections were chosen because of the number of crashes, the need for pedestrian safety and the volume of traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to OPPD data, 19,545 red light camera violations were issued from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. That\u2019s an average of more than 53 a day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Of those, 13,829 paid their fines, which amounted to $2,157,857.83 collected by the Town of Orange Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Of that, the town got to keep $1,027,741.40. The rest went to the Florida Department of Revenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">But town officials say the cameras are about more than money.
