{"id":247337,"date":"2025-09-22T22:25:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-22T22:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/247337\/"},"modified":"2025-09-22T22:25:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T22:25:11","slug":"the-mandalorian-grogu-trailer-returns-star-wars-to-theaters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/247337\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Mandalorian &#038; Grogu&#8217; Trailer Returns Star Wars to Theaters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDisney has released a trailer for first big-screen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/star-wars\/\" id=\"auto-tag_star-wars\" data-tag=\"star-wars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Star Wars<\/a> project in six years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tYet reactions to the footage from The Mandalorian &amp; Grogu (trailer below) is being dominated by comments slamming the studio over its decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe film is a spinoff of Disney+\u2019s The Mandalorian TV show and stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/pedro-pascal\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pedro-pascal\" data-tag=\"pedro-pascal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pedro Pascal<\/a> as the Mandalorian (aka Din Djarin), who travels the galaxy with his tiny ward Grogu (aka Baby Yoda).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe action-packed trailer is a bit of a different vibe for a Star Wars film, and feels very lighthearted and family friendly. Baby Yoda gets the most screen time in the footage, and nearly every character is either wearing a mask or a creature or a robot \u2014 the only clear human face shown is Sigourney Weaver as a Rebel Alliance colonel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe trailer was supposed to be released last week but was pushed repeatedly \u2014 possibly due to Disney\u2019s ongoing Kimmel mess dominating the headlines. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tYet with the Kimmel situation still unresolved, commenters accused the studio of trying to distract from the scandal. While the top-rated comment among the 4,000 already posted on YouTube was a jab at the film resurrecting Mando\u2019s destroyed ship (\u201cSomehow the Razor Crest returned\u201d), the second-highest-rated comment was \u201cDisney Execs: \u2018Everyone stop talking about Jimmy Kimmel! Look at the shiny new Star Wars movie!&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHere\u2019s a sample of other comments: \u201cIf only Disney could be as brave as their characters.\u201d And: \u201cI don\u2019t have Disney+ anymore. This is the way.\u201d And: \u201cDisney saw everyone cancelling subscriptions and decided to drop a trailer.\u201d And: \u201cI can\u2019t wait til Pedro Pascal goes on Jimmy Kimmel to promote this movie. Oh, wait.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAwkwardly for the studio, Pascal was among 400 celebrities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/jimmy-kimmel-celebrities-backing-tom-hanks-jennifer-aniston-1236377217\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to sign an open letter<\/a> from the ACLU that was released moments after the trailer, condemning the suspension of Kimmel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOther comments on the film say the footage looks more like a season of a TV show. \u201cI didn\u2019t know this was a movie until last five seconds of the trailer,\u201d one wrote. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThis marks the first Star Wars movie since 2019\u2019s The Rise of Skywalker will be directed by the show\u2019s creator <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/star-wars-mandalorian-movie-a-go-with-jon-favreau-1235783010\/\">Jon Favreau<\/a> and is written by Favreau and Dave Filoni.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe film also stars <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/mandalorian-and-grogu-casts-jeremy-allen-white-1236082027\/\">Jeremy Allen White<\/a> as Rotta the Hutt (son of crime lord Jabba the Hutt) and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial warlord.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Rise of Skywalker bowed a month after\u00a0The Mandalorian\u00a0premiered on Disney+, instantly becoming the streaming service\u2019s flagship show. Three seasons of the series have been released leading up to the movie, which is produced by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm chief creative officer Filoni. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Mandalorian was credited with proving that Star Wars could work on the small screen. In an ironic twist, now that same title has the weight of proving that Star Wars can still work on the big screen. Star Wars films had a downward trajectory at the box office, which had resulted in Disney dialing back on their production. The Mandalorian &amp; Grogu will be a test as to whether the decades-old franchise still has enough firing power to bring the masses into theaters.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLucasfilm has another theatrical Star Wars title in the near-term pipeline, Star Wars: Starfighter, a stand-alone movie directed by Shawn Levy that is set roughly five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Flynn Gray, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings and Amy Adams. Disney is set to release the film on May 28, 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tNeither Favreau nor Filoni has said much publicly about The Mandalorian &amp; Grogu. But last year at D23, Favreau\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheDCLBlog\/status\/1822256699538850098\">said<\/a>\u00a0on the red carpet, \u201cTo come back together and have the scale and scope of the big screen to tell a story with characters people already know in a brand-new adventure that can \u2026 part of what we\u2019ve set out to do is something that rewards people who have been with the show since the beginning, who have been with Star Wars since the beginning. But since we\u2019re on the big screen, it\u2019s an opportunity to reach out to a whole new audience with a whole new adventure and certainly with Grogu \u2014 certainly all the kids know who that is, and this is an opportunity to bring them to the theater.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/mandalorian-grogu-footage-star-wars-baby-yoda-1236193916\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Mandalorian &amp; Grogu<\/a>\u00a0will be released on May 22, 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Disney has released a trailer for first big-screen Star Wars project in six years.
