{"id":247412,"date":"2025-09-22T23:05:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-22T23:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/247412\/"},"modified":"2025-09-22T23:05:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T23:05:12","slug":"hugo-ekitike-on-why-he-chose-liverpool-over-newcastle-dont-think-i-made-a-mistake-liverpool-fc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/247412\/","title":{"rendered":"Hugo Ekitike on why he chose Liverpool over Newcastle &#8211; &#8220;Don&#8217;t think I made a mistake&#8221; &#8211; Liverpool FC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a data-ail=\"327805\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/hugo-ekitike\/\" title=\"Hugo Ekitike\" rel=\"noopener\">Hugo Ekitike<\/a> was pursued by Liverpool and <a data-ail=\"327805\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/newcastle\/\" title=\"Newcastle\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle<\/a> over the summer but rejected the latter\u2019s advances in favour of Anfield, and he is not regretting the choice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ekitike found himself in the middle of a transfer battle between Liverpool and <a data-ail=\"327805\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/newcastle\/\" title=\"Newcastle\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle<\/a> in the summer, with the 23-year-old seen as the Magpies\u2019 No. 1 target.<\/p>\n<p>The brief from <a data-ail=\"327805\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/newcastle\/\" title=\"Newcastle\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle<\/a> was that he was to play alongside <a data-ail=\"327805\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/alexander-isak\/\" title=\"Alexander Isak\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexander Isak<\/a>, but that is now only possible at Anfield after both players joined for a combined \u00a3204 million.<\/p>\n<p>It was the second time Ekitike had knocked back <a data-ail=\"327805\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/newcastle\/\" title=\"Newcastle\" rel=\"noopener\">Newcastle<\/a>\u2018s advances, having first done so in 2022, and speaking on Canal Football Club, the Frenchman explained his choice.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was my choice, it\u2019s what I wanted,\u201d Ekitike said, via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footmercato.net\/a588746476338361469-liverpool-hugo-ekitike-explique-pourquoi-il-a-dit-non-a-newcastle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foot Mercato<\/a>. \u201cBecause I had a better feeling coming here, and I knew it was the right time and the right place for me. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to return to the top level and this time come back better equipped, more ready in every way. And I don\u2019t think I made a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Three goals and one assist across his five <a data-ail=\"327805\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/premier-league\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier League<\/a> starts leaves little to regret for Ekitike, who has quickly endeared himself to Liverpool supporters.<\/p>\n<p>There is a certain pressure playing as the leading man for Liverpool, but Ekitike has taken it in his stride so far and is embracing the competition Isak presents. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a very, very good player,\u201d Ekitike said of Isak to TNT Sports after the derby win. \u201cI always watched him before I came here.
