{"id":247688,"date":"2025-09-23T01:38:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T01:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/247688\/"},"modified":"2025-09-23T01:38:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T01:38:10","slug":"andy-roddick-suggests-why-carlos-alcaraz-was-a-little-bit-unprepared-for-the-laver-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/247688\/","title":{"rendered":"Andy Roddick suggests why Carlos Alcaraz was &#8216;a little bit unprepared&#8217; for the Laver Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Team Europe\u2019s title defence at the Laver Cup came to an end on the final day, when Team World\u2019s Taylor Fritz clinched the win in the decisive tie against Alexander Zverev. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The score finished 15-9 in favour of captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andre-agassi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andre Agassi<\/a>\u2018s side, whose victory was helped largely by a 4-0 sweep on day two of the event, which saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/taylor-fritz-says-why-he-was-getting-so-worried-during-his-match-with-carlos-alcaraz-despite-winning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fritz defeat world number one Carlos Alcaraz<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcaraz<\/a> suffered a heavy straight-sets loss to the American, falling to him for the first time at a tour-level competition, 6-3, 6-2.<\/p>\n<p>Though he went on to win his next two matches at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/Laver-Cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laver Cup<\/a>, the Spaniard\u2019s result against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/taylor-fritz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fritz<\/a> left many fans shocked, but former US Open champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andy-roddick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Roddick<\/a> thinks there was a good reason for the upset.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2236508237-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Taylor Fritz of Team World greets Carlos Alcaraz of Team Europe following their match during day two of Laver Cup 2025 at Chase Center.\" class=\"wp-image-131356\" \/>Photo by Clive Brunskill\/Getty Images for Laver CupAndy Roddick reacts to Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s loss to Taylor Fritz<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s level set what the last month of Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s life has looked like,\u201d said Roddick while hosting \u2018Served Live\u2019 in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we want to get crazy and super responsible with commentary, let\u2019s go back to April, where<br \/>he starts this run in Monte Carlo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the stat is so ridiculous. I\u2019m going to be off by one. He has made nine or ten straight finals, including a bunch of master series events, Monte Carlo Rome, I mean, it just goes on and on and on.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"inline-links multi\">\n<li>Monte-Carlo Masters: Champion<\/li>\n<li>Barcelona Open: Runner-Up<\/li>\n<li>Italian Open: Champion<\/li>\n<li>French Open: Champion<\/li>\n<li>Queen\u2019s Club Championships: Champion<\/li>\n<li>Wimbledon: Runner-Up<\/li>\n<li>Cincinnati Open: Champion<\/li>\n<li>US Open: Champion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThree majors, of which he won two and played in maybe one of the best matches that I\u2019ve ever seen with my own eyeballs at Roland Garros.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWins the US Open, I think it\u2019s the best that I\u2019ve ever seen him play, which is saying something when you\u2019re talking about a phenom like Carlos Alcaraz. He goes home, doesn\u2019t play Davis Cup, has two weeks before this event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no chance that a responsible coach and or fitness trainer says you\u2019re gonna be putting in six-hour days for these two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt some point, something has to give, and I think we have to give Carlos Alcaraz props because it would have been very easy to take the month and then finish the year. He actually showed up and played, even when he\u2019s probably a little bit unprepared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s just no world where he should have been taxing himself physically or mentally post-US open. Like, there\u2019s just not a world where that actually happens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso like, what are we doing? This guy has created a shadow to where he loses to the number four player in the world who has been in a major final and was in the semis of Wimbledon this year, and we\u2019re all going: \u2018What happened?
