President Donald Trump<\/a> will meet with the two top Democrats in Congress sometime this week as the federal government heads toward a possible shutdown, a person familiar with the meeting told CNBC.<\/p>\n Trump’s meeting with Senate Minority Leader\u00a0Chuck Schumer<\/a> and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, both New Yorkers, would come just days before a Sept. 30 deadline for Congress to pass a funding resolution that would keep the government open. <\/p>\n Prospects for such a deal, as of now, look dim as Democrats hold firm on demands that any resolution include an extension of\u00a0the\u00a0Affordable Care Act’s<\/a>\u00a0enhanced tax credits. <\/p>\n Read more CNBC politics coverage<\/p>\n Those credits, which are used to lower the cost of health insurance plans purchased on Obamacare marketplaces, are currently set to expire at the end of 2025.<\/p>\n Republicans appear unwilling to acquiesce to the Democrats’ demands.<\/p>\n Schumer this weekend repeatedly urged Trump to meet with him and Jeffries to try to negotiate an end to the stalemate.<\/p>\n
