Although the focus of the hearing was supposed to be about crime and safety in the nation\u2019s Capitol, Mace used her five minutes to try and spark a culture war by pushing a bill entitled \u201cNo DEI in D.C. Act,\u201d which seemed to suggest that diversity, equity and inclusion were to blame for the city\u2019s crime.<\/p>\n

Mace then launched into a series of laughably unhinged questions \u2014 which included Mace asking Bowser to answer \u201cyes or no\u201d to the incredibly nuanced topic of whether or not \u201cD.C. government is racist.\u201d<\/p>\n
After failing to get sound bites from an increasingly flabbergasted Bowser, Mace decided to push her anti-trans agenda<\/a>by taking issue with the inclusive term \u201cbirthing people\u201d<\/a> \u2014 rather than \u201cwomen\u201d \u2014 being used in a section of the D.C. code.<\/p>\n Politics: GOP Senators Criticize FCC’s Threats Against ABC And Jimmy Kimmel<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cOne thing we noticed the D.C. code struggles to define is the term \u2018woman,\u2019\u201d Mace began. \u201cSo, Mayor Bowser, what is a woman?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m a woman. Are you a woman?\u201d Bowser shot back, causing several people in the hearing to burst out laughing.<\/p>\n \u201c100%\u201d Mace replied.<\/p>\n \u201cOK,\u201d Bowser said flatly. \u201cI\u2019m a woman. You\u2019re looking at one.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOk, good,\u201d Mace said seemingly flustered.<\/p>\n Many X users \u2014 much like Bowser \u2014 had a hard time wrapping their heads around whatever bigoted point Mace was trying to make.\u00a0<\/p>\n This by no means is the first time the South Carolina lawmaker has made her anti-trans stance obnoxiously crystal clear. Last year, she tried to ban the first openly trans congressperson from using the women\u2019s bathrooms<\/a> at the Capitol.
