Maureen McCormick, who famously starred as Marcia Brady in \u201cThe Brady Bunch,\u201d celebrated her 40th wedding anniversary this year. <\/p>\n
The actress and her husband, Michael Cummings, say the secret to a lasting union under the Hollywood spotlight is surprisingly simple.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve got to have a sense of humor about things,\u201d the actor recently told\u00a0People<\/a>\u00a0at The John Ritter Foundation\u2019s Evening from the Heart Gala in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can\u2019t take things too seriously,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to let things go and just love the one you\u2019re with. It\u2019s a lifetime deal.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cCelebrate the differences,\u201d McCormick also told the outlet. She revealed they both knew \u201cright away\u201d they wanted to build a forever together.<\/p>\n It also helped that Cummings wasn\u2019t starstruck by McCormick\u2019s TV fame when they first met.<\/p>\n Maureen McCormick famously starred as Marcia Brady in \u201cThe Brady Bunch.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t know who she was, but I liked what I saw,\u201d he said. \u201cI saw those eyes and just fell in love.\u201d<\/p>\n McCormick said that his lack of knowledge about her acting career was \u201cvery refreshing to me.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026 [He had] no preconceived ideas about who I was,\u201d said the former child star. \u201cIt was really wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEver since I was little, I wanted to get married and find somebody,\u201d said McCormick, 69. \u201cIt\u2019s just the craziest thing, but I looked at his eyes, we were at a concert, and I just felt like he was the one.\u201d<\/p>\n McCormick and Michael Cummings attend an Evening From The Heart Los Angeles Gala at Sunset Room Hollywood on Sept. 12, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Getty Images<\/p>\n The couple started dating in the 1980s.\u00a0<\/p>\n They married in 1985\u00a0and welcomed their daughter, Natalie Michelle Cummings, in 1989.<\/p>\n Over the years, they\u2019ve prioritized family over fame.<\/p>\n \u201cHonestly, we haven\u2019t stopped celebrating [our anniversary], because I think it\u2019s taken a lot of work to be [in] this place in our relationship,\u201d said McCormick. \u201cIt\u2019s better than ever. We feel very grateful and thankful to have found each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n McCormick\u00a0starred in \u201cThe Brady Bunch\u201d\u00a0for five seasons from 1969 to 1974. For five years, she struggled with a cocaine addiction, which she detailed in her 2008 memoir,\u00a0\u201cHere\u2019s the Story.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI had played Marcia Brady for five years. But I wasn\u2019t her in any way, shape or form. She was perfect. I was anything but that,\u201d McCormick wrote, as quoted by\u00a0The Telegraph<\/a>.<\/p>\n McCormick said she felt \u201cincredibly lucky\u201d to have found sobriety after falling into drug addiction when \u201cThe Brady Bunch\u201d ended.<\/p>\n \u201cI sought refuge in seemingly glamorous cocaine dens above Hollywood,\u201d she admitted. \u201cI thought I would find answers there, while, in reality, I was simply running farther from myself. From there, I spiraled downward on a path of self-destruction that cost me my career and very nearly my life.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOver the years I battled drug addiction and bulimia,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI was treated in a psych ward, went in and out of rehab,\u00a0and looked to God for answers\u00a0\u2026 If there was coke, I had to stay up and do every last flake, even if it meant going without sleep for days. Nothing else mattered.\u201d<\/p>\n
