Colin Farrell<\/a> has opened up about the intense time filming Oliver Stone\u2019s 2004 epic historical drama \u201cAlexander<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor \u2014 in a joint interview with his \u201cA Big Bold Beautiful Journey\u201d costar Margot Robbie for Collider<\/a> \u2014 revealed that the Battle of Gaugmela<\/a> was the \u201chardest sequence\u201d of his career, noting that it was shot over four weeks in the desert of Morocco.<\/p>\n

Farrell, after Robbie asked if the sequence involved elephants, clarified that shooting the Battle of<\/a> the Hydaspes<\/a> was \u201cthe most dangerous thing\u201d he\u2019s \u201cever been a part of.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey would say action and there was eight head of elephant, 200 head of horse and 800 background, 800 foreground, 800 x, 800 Thai men who would move,\u201d Farrell explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow, that\u2019s crazy!\u201d Robbie remarked.<\/p>\n

Farrell continued, \u201cEight elephants, 200 horses and 800 men would go on action. One guy broke his leg on horseback, that was it, nobody died. It was a miracle. You couldn\u2019t do it, they wouldn\u2019t do it now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Farrell starred as Alexander the Great in the 2004 epic, which featured an all-star cast that included Angelina Jolie, Val Kilmer, Jared Leto, Rosario Dawson and Anthony Hopkins.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlexander\u201d \u2014 which was in development for 16 years<\/a> prior to its release \u2014 is considered to be a box office failure, grossing $167 million globally against its $155 million budget.<\/p>\n

Farrell, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> in 2023, said he and others with \u201cAlexander\u201d had tuxedos ready for an award shows run and expected the film would be \u201coff to the Oscars\u201d before negative press began to trickle in.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Holy shit.\u2019 I thought, \u2018What can I do?\u2019 I felt so much shame,\u201d said Farrell of criticism toward the film, which received six nominations at the 2005 Golden Raspberry Awards.<\/p>\n

He added that the reception caused him to question himself as an actor, which eventually led him to \u201cplug back into\u201d the person he was when he walked into an acting class at age 17.<\/p>\n
