We really like NTE<\/a>, the other upcoming anime-style GTA<\/a> game from Perfect World. But as this almost 10-minute trailer shows, Ananta<\/a> \u2013 formerly known as Project Mugen<\/a> \u2013 blows it out of the water.<\/p>\n

This trailer is just a non-stop medley of insane gameplay ideas. Most of the content is pulled from other popular games, but it\u2019s all executed excellently.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a ton of Saints Row<\/a> and GTA DNA for starters \u2013 even down to the camera panning character switching, as you move across the world in \u2018Short Stories of Springfield\u2019 fashion.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, combat blends traditional firearms with a rhythmic dance to the death, a la Batman: Arkham Asylum<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, there are gizmos like you\u2019d find in Watch Dogs<\/a>, and minigames to engage with \u2013 including one which appears to be inspired by Power Slap.<\/p>\n

And you can dress to impress, drive around, or just hang out with a colourful cast of characters.<\/p>\n

Failing all of that \u2013 and if the cars don\u2019t appeal to you \u2013 you can swing about the sandbox like you\u2019re a certain Marvel character. It\u2019s all shamelessly lifted from Insomniac\u2019s outing, but it looks like superb fun.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what the blurb has to say about it all:<\/p>\n

\u201cAnanta is an urban open-world RPG with a high degree of freedom where you play as a variety of characters. In this city, the world is your oyster to dig in and explore, from bustling business districts to hidden alleyways. Venture to different neighborhoods and rub shoulders with an intriguing cast of characters as you assemble your own crew for adventure and exploration. Throughout the adventure, players will join forces and take a stand against hidden threats lurking within the shadows or live it up and bask in the urban nightlife under the neon glow of the city. The choice is yours, as calamity and the commonplace intermingle freely. In Ananta, a whole new world is waiting.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As this is a free-to-play game, we\u2019re still not entirely sure how the gacha system will work, but the press release mentions that each character will have his or her own gameplay and story.<\/p>\n

You get a glimpse of this during the trailer, as the perspective switches to a police officer who has different roles and responsibilities to the main character.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no release date just yet, but the title will be playable for the first time at the Tokyo Game Show<\/strong><\/a> later this week.<\/p>\n

It seems unbelievably ambitious, and we\u2019re honestly still a little sceptical about whether it\u2019s even real. But it\u2019s hard not to be excited by this trailer, huh?<\/p>\n
