(Photo by Chris Stone\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/casacornelia.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Casa Cornelia Law Center<\/a> is set to host its annual <a href=\"https:\/\/casacornelia.org\/la-mancha-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Mancha Awards<\/a> on Oct. 23 at the University of San Diego\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.edu\/peace\/institute-for-peace-justice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice<\/a>, honoring attorneys, law firms and community leaders whose pro bono work defends the rights of vulnerable immigrants.  <\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s theme, \u201cPerseverance: The Journey Towards Justice,\u201d highlights the persistence of those who stand up for due process amid the evolving immigration landscape, according to the organization. <\/p>\n<p>Honorees include <strong>Distinguished Pro Bono Attorney of the Year<\/strong> Max DeWit, Esq., Mayer Brown LLP, <strong>Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year<\/strong> Cooley LLP, the <strong>Lucy Howell Humanitarian Award<\/strong> recipient Bishop Michael M. Pham, <strong>Pro Bono Publico Awards<\/strong> for 12 volunteer attorneys and <strong>Special Recognition Awards<\/strong> for eight non-attorney volunteers including interpreters and community partners. <\/p>\n<p>The event raises funds for Casa Cornelia\u2019s programs, which provide vital legal support to victims of human and civil rights violations.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are available through Oct. 10 at <a href=\"https:\/\/casacornelia.org\/la-mancha-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">casacornelia.org\/la-mancha-awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Bishop Michael M.
