However, members of the Greater Fort Worth Association of REALTORS® (GFWAR) work diligently for property rights. What you may not know is Fort Worth REALTORS® are championing causes that affect every homeowner and future buyer in our community.

From City Hall to Capitol Hill, GFWAR members are hard at work advocating for homeownership, private property rights and housing affordability. The goal is simple yet powerful: to protect the dream of homeownership and ensure real estate remains accessible and equitable for all.

Year-Round Advocacy That Matters

Advocacy isn’t just a side project for Fort Worth REALTORS®; it is central to their mission. Throughout the year, GFWAR members engage with local, state and federal officials to make sure the voice of real estate is heard where it counts.

REALTOR® members fight for smart housing policies, fair lending practices, lower property taxes and legislation that keeps property ownership accessible and protected. Whether it’s defending homeowners from unfair regulations or pushing for increased housing supply, REALTORS® are actively shaping the future of Fort Worth’s communities

Showing Up and Speaking Out

ENJOY READING THE NEWS AGAIN

Discover refreshing, nonpartisan reporting on stories happening in your backyard.

One of the most evident ways REALTORS® advocate is through events like REALTOR® Day at the Texas Capitol. Each year, over 5,000 REALTORS® from across the state—including many from Fort Worth—travel to Austin to speak directly with lawmakers. The goal is to support legislation that benefits homeowners and oppose bills that could threaten housing access, affordability or private property rights.

Nationally, GFWAR members participate in the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Legislative Meetings in Washington, D.C. These “Hill Visits” give Fort Worth REALTORS® the chance to meet with members of Congress to advocate on key issues like tax policy, fair housing and infrastructure that supports community growth.

Policy Over Politics: The Purple Solution

Locally, GFWAR is known for its balanced, nonpartisan approach to politics. The association interviews and endorses candidates for local and state office based solely on their stance on real estate-related issues, not party affiliation.

GFWAR calls this approach the “Purple Solution” because protecting property rights and promoting affordable housing shouldn’t be a red or blue issue. It is about supporting leaders who understand the needs of Fort Worth’s residents and the real estate professionals who serve them.

TREPAC: The Power Behind the Policy

At the heart of REALTOR® advocacy in Texas is TREPAC—the Texas Real Estate Political Action Committee. Entirely self-funded by REALTOR® members, TREPAC is the largest grassroots PAC in the state, representing over 150,000 REALTORS®.

Its mission is to support elected officials who support real estate. TREPAC isn’t about ideology, but outcomes. It backs candidates who prioritize private property rights, housing affordability and smart growth, regardless of political party.

Connecting Communities and Elected Officials

GFWAR also hosts events that bring elected officials into direct conversation with the people they represent. Legislative town halls, community forums and informal meet-and-greets help build transparency and trust. These grassroots events allow REALTORS® to share the real-world impact of policy decisions and ensure lawmakers stay connected to the communities they serve.

More Than a Sign in the Yard

When you see a REALTOR® sign in your neighborhood, know they are doing more than helping someone buy or sell a property. They might also be drafting letters to legislators, attending city council meetings or walking the halls of the Texas Capitol.

They’re fighting for housing that’s affordable. For policies that protect your investment. And for communities like Fort Worth to remain places where homeownership is a dream within reach for everyone.

GFWAR members met with Representatives Marc Veasey, Craig Goldman and Roger Williams on Capitol Hill to advocate for legislation critical to housing affordability, accessibility, and equity.
