{"id":249376,"date":"2025-09-23T16:36:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T16:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/249376\/"},"modified":"2025-09-23T16:36:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T16:36:11","slug":"sheriff-embraces-jail-recommendations-her-office-previously-rejected-san-diego-union-tribune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/249376\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheriff embraces jail recommendations her office previously rejected \u2013 San Diego Union-Tribune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Re \u201cOver sheriff\u2019s objections, county supervisors vote to expand civilian jail oversight board\u2019s authority\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiegouniontribune.com\/2025\/09\/09\/over-sheriffs-objections-san-diego-county-supervisors-expand-civilian-jail-oversight-boards-authority\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sept. 9<\/a>): It is wild that Sheriff Martinez now wants San Diego County to spend taxpayer dollars on an \u201cindependent and comprehensive assessment of the quality and effectiveness of health care services delivered within the jail.\u201d That\u2019s already happened \u2014 remember the California state auditor\u2019s 2022 report on the failures of the Sheriff\u2019s Office?<\/p>\n<p>It literally caused her predecessor, Sheriff Bill Gore, to resign. That audit already outlined several ways the sheriff could improve medical and mental health within San Diego detention facilities \u2014 the very preventive measures she now says she\u2019d like to focus on. She could be implementing those right now, and yet, in many cases, she hasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t need more expensive studies. We know the path forward.
