Chan School of Public Health, <a href=\"https:\/\/ehjournal.biomedcentral.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s12940-025-01208-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">co-authored a study analysis last month linking acetaminophen<\/a> \u2014 the pain reliever\u2019s active ingredient \u2014 to neurodevelopmental disorders including autism.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusion of the analysis, first reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/article\/aa7fff5a-d267-440f-a544-a3cd75c33416?shareToken=dcf1150451ca2a917d2c621b7aa2a76c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Times<\/a> of London, warned pregnant women to \u201climit acetaminophen consumption to protect their offspring\u2019s neurodevelopment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has recommended that pregnant women stop using Tylenol. AP<\/p>\n<p>Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary approvingly cited the review during Monday\u2019s announcement, insisting that the \u201coverwhelming body of evidence points to an association\u201d between Tylenol and autism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot wait any longer,\u201d added Makary, quoting Baccarelli\u2019s dire warning directly.<\/p>\n<p>Trump echoed the FDA chief\u2019s remarks, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/22\/us-news\/trump-announces-fda-will-change-tylenol-safety-label-urges-pregnant-mothers-to-prevent-autism-risk-in-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">telling reporters from the Roosevelt Room<\/a>: \u201cWith Tylenol, don\u2019t take it! Don\u2019t take it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announce the administration\u2019s autism findings at the White House on Monday. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>However, Baccarelli served as a paid expert witness in an unsuccessful 2023 class-action suit against Tylenol maker Kenvue, brought by a group of parents who claimed their children\u2019s ADHD and autism were a result of the mothers taking the drug while pregnant.<\/p>\n<p>Baccarelli was one of five expert witnesses for the plaintiffs in the case \u2014 all of whom had their testimonies dismissed by a federal judge who deemed their conclusions \u201cunbalanced.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe discussion in his reports is incomplete, unbalanced and at times misleading,\u201d wrote Manhattan US District Judge Denise Cote. \u201cIn general, Dr. Baccarelli downplays those studies that undercut his causation thesis and emphasizes those that align with his thesis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cote further found the expert witnesses \u201chave not served to enlighten but to obfuscate the weakness of the evidence on which they purport to rely and the contradictions in the research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Andrea Baccarelli, dean of Harvard University\u2019s T.H.
