{"id":250218,"date":"2025-09-24T00:10:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T00:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/250218\/"},"modified":"2025-09-24T00:10:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T00:10:10","slug":"tarrant-county-colleges-see-fall-enrollment-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/250218\/","title":{"rendered":"Tarrant County colleges see fall enrollment growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"byline\">by McKinnon Rice, Fort Worth Report <br \/>September 23, 2025<\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;byline&quot;\">by McKinnon Rice, Fort Worth Report <br \/>September 23, 2025<\/p>\n<p>Tarrant County\u2019s universities and community college saw enrollment growth this fall, according to the schools\u2019 data released this month.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Christian University and Texas Wesleyan University each enrolled their largest-ever incoming classes, while Tarrant County College saw its fourth consecutive year of increased enrollment.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what the numbers show:<\/p>\n<p>Tarrant County College<\/p>\n<p>TCC enrolled 49,393 students across its six campuses so far this fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese enrollment gains represent bold dreams of better futures and lives forever changed,\u201d Chancellor Elva LeBlanc said in a release. \u201cStudents find value here. We\u2019re honored that they do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>!function(){&#8220;use strict&#8221;;window.addEventListener(&#8220;message&#8221;,function(a){if(void 0!==a.data[&#8220;datawrapper-height&#8221;]){var e=document.querySelectorAll(&#8220;iframe&#8221;);for(var t in a.data[&#8220;datawrapper-height&#8221;])for(var r,i=0;r=e[i];i++)if(r.contentWindow===a.source){var d=a.data[&#8220;datawrapper-height&#8221;][t]+&#8221;px&#8221;;r.style.height=d}}})}();<\/p>\n<p>This number is expected to increase after registration for the college\u2019s second eight-week term ends Oct. 16.<\/p>\n<p>During an Aug. 21 board meeting, college trustees approved <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/08\/27\/tcc-keeps-property-tax-at-same-rate-as-trustees-approve-415m-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a $415 million operating budget<\/a> that included an expected nearly $71 million in tuition revenue, helping to offset a drop in local property tax revenue.<\/p>\n<p>University of Texas at Arlington<\/p>\n<p>UTA\u2019s freshman class was 5,126 students, up 7.6% from last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA UTA degree has never been more valued or sought after by students from across Texas and beyond,\u201d university President Jennifer Cowley said in a news release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>!function(){&#8220;use strict&#8221;;window.addEventListener(&#8220;message&#8221;,function(a){if(void 0!==a.data[&#8220;datawrapper-height&#8221;]){var e=document.querySelectorAll(&#8220;iframe&#8221;);for(var t in a.data[&#8220;datawrapper-height&#8221;])for(var r,i=0;r=e[i];i++)if(r.contentWindow===a.source){var d=a.data[&#8220;datawrapper-height&#8221;][t]+&#8221;px&#8221;;r.style.height=d}}})}();<\/p>\n<p>Total enrollment at UTA reached 42,710.<\/p>\n<p>The number of graduate students dropped by 4% to 10,312. The school saw a 30% decrease in international graduate students from 4,022 to 2,803.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That was lower than the 40% decrease projected in the UT System budget but still consequential.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>International students, who often pay full sticker price to attend universities in the United States, make up a significant source of revenue.<\/p>\n<p>However, the drop in international students enrolled in graduate programs was offset by an uptick of such students seeking their bachelor\u2019s, which rose by 20.6%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>!function(){&#8220;use strict&#8221;;window.addEventListener(&#8220;message&#8221;,function(a){if(void 0!==a.data[&#8220;datawrapper-height&#8221;]){var e=document.querySelectorAll(&#8220;iframe&#8221;);for(var t in a.data[&#8220;datawrapper-height&#8221;])for(var r,i=0;r=e[i];i++)if(r.contentWindow===a.source){var d=a.data[&#8220;datawrapper-height&#8221;][t]+&#8221;px&#8221;;r.style.height=d}}})}();<\/p>\n<p>Universities across the country expected a drop in international enrollment this fall after many students had their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/education\/2025\/04\/15\/more-than-300-visas-revoked-from-texas-international-students-by-trump-administration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">visas suddenly in limbo in the spring<\/a>, including many at local schools. Then prospective foreign students faced difficulties in obtaining visa appointments and a slower approval process as their social media accounts are reviewed, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/08\/20\/us\/trump-visa-vetting-international-students.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">news reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Christian University<\/p>\n<p>TCU enrolled 2,754 freshmen, a 12% increase from last fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis unprecedented class is more than a milestone,\u201d Chancellor Daniel Pullin said in a release. \u201cIt reflects our students\u2019 belief in TCU\u2019s mission and their desire to be part of something bigger. Pell Grants are federal financial aid based on need that do not need to be repaid.<\/p>\n<p>Students in the program can receive the scholarship for up to four years if they maintain eligibility requirements.<\/p>\n<p>During the 2022-23 school year, the most recent year for which federal data is available, 50% of Texas Wesleyan undergraduates received Pell Grants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to open doors for all students, ensuring they thrive at Texas Wesleyan beyond enrollment,\u201d Findley said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>McKinnon Rice is the higher education reporter for the Fort Worth Report.
