NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — With Election Day six weeks away, Zohran Mamdani, Mayor Eric Adams and former Governor Andrew Cuomo all courted Jewish voters at synagogues at Rosh Hashanah services on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Cuomo insists he doesn’t believe the polls, which show that two in three Jewish likely voters have an unfavorable view of the former governor.<\/p>\n
“Why do you suppose that is? Why aren’t you doing better in the Jewish community than you are? Yeah, first of all, I wouldn’t believe any of these polls,” he said.<\/p>\n
Democratic nominee, Zohran Mamdani, has acknowledged using the incendiary phrase “Globalize the Intifada” in the past, and has condemned Israel’s response to October 7th as an act of “genocide.”<\/p>\n
In the latest poll, Mamdani and Cuomo are tied among Jewish likely voters at 35%, followed by Mayor Adams and Republican Curtis Sliwa.<\/p>\n
Jay De Dapper, who is director of strategy for the Marist Poll, weighed in.<\/p>\n
“What we have seen, and other polls have seen the same thing, is that younger Jewish voters are more likely to support Mamdani than older Jewish voters,” De Dapper said. “The cause of that? I think a lot of people can speculate about, but that is what we’re seeing.”<\/p>\n
Mamdani has a strong following among progressive Jews. He attended synagogue with Comptroller Brad Lander Monday night and is sharpening his outreach.<\/p>\n
Jewish likely voters aren’t happy with any of the candidates, but none more so than the former governor, who’s viewed unfavorably by 64%, and the findings come despite the mayor’s traditionally strong ties to the Jewish community.<\/p>\n
But Cuomo insists Jewish voters will help put him over the top.<\/p>\n
“I’m telling you, you’re going to see a Jewish turnout like you have never seen before,” Cuomo said. “You are going to see a Jewish turnout on Election Day like you have never seen before.”<\/p>\n
The question is — whose Jewish supporters will be more energized in November? A shift in the Jewish vote could make a difference on Election Night.<\/p>\n
