HOUSTON \u2014 A 13-year-old boy was hospitalized Tuesday evening after being shot by his mother during a family dispute, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Capt. Juan Flores said deputies were sent a little before 5:30 p.m. to a home on Ranch Oak Drive hear Hardy Street following reports of a disturbance involving family members. While units were on the way, another call reported possible gunfire with someone being struck.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur investigation thus far has concluded that two family members were involved in a disturbance,\u201d Flores said. \u201cIt is going to be a mother and a 13-year-old son. During the altercation, the mom did produce a weapon and she did fire a round, striking her son.\u201d<\/p>\n

The boy was transported to a local hospital and is currently stable.<\/p>\n
The mother faces aggravated family assault charges, which the Harris County District Attorney\u2019s office has agreed to accept, according to Flores. He said she was detained at the scene and will be booked into the Harris County Jail.<\/p>\n
When asked about the nature of the dispute, Flores said it involved \u201cfamily matters here within the home that\u2019s been brewing\u201d and that there had been previous incidents between the mother and her son. He confirmed no one else in the home was injured.<\/p>\n
Flores identified the weapon used as a handgun and said that the son was not armed at the time.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt led to a verbal disturbance and ultimately it led her to firing her handgun and striking the child.\u201d Flores said.<\/p>\n
Authorities are continuing their investigation.<\/p>\n
