{"id":251324,"date":"2025-09-24T14:58:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T14:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/251324\/"},"modified":"2025-09-24T14:58:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T14:58:10","slug":"new-york-citys-first-rat-czar-steps-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/251324\/","title":{"rendered":"New York City\u2019s first \u2018rat czar\u2019 steps down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York City\u2019s first \u201crat czar\u201d has stepped down from her post, more than two years after Mayor Eric Adams recruited her to tackle the city\u2019s rodent problems.<\/p>\n<p>Kathleen Corradi quietly left the position last week, The City first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecity.nyc\/2025\/09\/23\/rat-czar-leaves-city-hall-kathleen-corradi-adams\/\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thecity.nyc\/2025\/09\/23\/rat-czar-leaves-city-hall-kathleen-corradi-adams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>, after spearheading a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/mornings-on-1\/2024\/04\/19\/sanitation-commissioner-celebrates-drop-in-rat-sightings\" title=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/mornings-on-1\/2024\/04\/19\/sanitation-commissioner-celebrates-drop-in-rat-sightings\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">measurable<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/health\/2024\/05\/04\/reported-rat-sightings-are-down-across-the-city\" title=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/health\/2024\/05\/04\/reported-rat-sightings-are-down-across-the-city\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">decline<\/a>\u00a0in rat sightings across the five boroughs.<\/p>\n<p>Adams confirmed her departure in a statement Wednesday, praising her for handling the \u201cdaunting, complex task\u201d with \u201cconfidence and creativity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city has seen eight straight months of declines in rodent sightings, as well as a year-to-date drop of more than 15%, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Corradi will \u201cstill be working to serve the city in a different capacity,\u201d the mayor noted, without providing details.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur communities are cleaner than ever, and cities from across the globe are interested in her one-of-a-kind role and our city\u2019s success,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/news\/2023\/04\/12\/nyc-appoints-first--rat-czar--to-tackle-rodent-problems\" title=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/news\/2023\/04\/12\/nyc-appoints-first--rat-czar--to-tackle-rodent-problems\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Appointed in April 2023<\/a>\u00a0as the city\u2019s official \u201cdirector of rodent mitigation,\u201d Corradi came to the role with a background in biology and urban sustainability \u2014 and was tasked with leading one of the city\u2019s most high-profile quality-of-life battles.<\/p>\n<p>Her appointment\u00a0was the first of its kind in the country, drawing both headlines and curiosity from residents long frustrated by overflowing trash and scurrying rodents.
