PHOENIX \u2013 A Phoenix father is facing multiple felony charges after his 5-year-old daughter was killed by her brother in an accidental shooting earlier this year, authorities announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n

A Maricopa County grand jury indicted 33-year-old Irvin Eduardo Ramos-Jimenez on one count of child abuse last month, according to the Maricopa County Attorney\u2019s Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier, he was charged<\/a> with prohibited weapon possession because he couldn\u2019t legally own a gun after a previous felony conviction. His trial is scheduled to begin in March 2026.<\/p>\n

Why is Phoenix father facing charges over girl\u2019s death?<\/p>\n

Prosecutors say Ramos-Jimenez was storing an AR-style rifle in his son\u2019s bedroom prior to the accidental shooting.<\/p>\n

The boy gained access to the gun and shot his sister in their home near Seventh Avenue and Broadway Road the night of June 3<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The family initially drove the girl to a behavioral hospital, according to the Phoenix Police Department<\/a>. She was then taken by ambulance to a trauma hospital, where she was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

Officers learned the girl had been shot by her brother after securing the crime scene. Ramos-Jimenez was arrested at the time for the weapons offense.<\/p>\n
