\n Doing the flag thing on Mars \u2014 NASA <\/p>\n

Keith\u2019s note:<\/strong> Yesterday OMB director Russell Vought and OSTP Director Michael Kratsios issued a memo titled \u201cFiscal Year (FY) 2027 Administration Research and Development Budget Priorities and Cross-Cutting Actions<\/a>\u201c<\/strong> to show what the Adminstration\u2019s top five to-do tech things are. The shortest was \u201cNumber 5. Assure America\u2019s Continued Space Dominance\u201d. The words \u201cscience\u201d and \u201ceducation\u201d appear nowhere in the space paragraph but \u201ccivilian and defense mission needs\u201d appear in the first sentence. We also see the terms \u201cGolden Age of American Innovation\u201d and \u201cGold Standard Science\u201d which, by virtue of being capitalized, represent the formal names of things that no one has actually defined. But wait: there is a quote at the top of the memo that says \u201cWe are going to conquer the vast frontiers of science, and we are going to lead humanity into space and plant the American flag on the planet Mars and even far beyond. And, through it all, we are going to rediscover the unstoppable power of the American spirit, and we are going to renew unlimited promise ofthe American dream. \u201d \u2013 President Donald J.
