(File photo from a food bank video)<\/p>\n<p>Three of San Diego\u2019s leading foundations are expected to announce Thursday $70 million in funding to ensure local families have access to food, housing and healthcare amid \u201cunprecedented cuts to critical programs and services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cUnited for San Diego\u201d plan is a joint effort by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prebysfdn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prebys Foundation<\/a>,  <a href=\"https:\/\/pricephilanthropies.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Price Philanthropies<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Diego Foundation<\/a> that was described as \u201cone of the largest collaborative philanthropic efforts in San Diego history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The foundations said in a news advisory that the loss of key federal government funding is \u201cthe most significant community challenge since COVID-19\u201d and called for other philanthropic organizations to contribute to the new San Diego Unity Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H.R. 1 legislation<\/a> \u2014 President Trump\u2019s \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill\u201d \u2014 passed earlier this year reduces federal funding for Medicaid health coverage, SNAP food assistance and Section 8 housing assistance, among other government programs.<\/p>\n<p>The foundations warned of the following impacts:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>San Diego County is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supervisorterralawsonremer.com\/content\/dam\/d3\/board-letters-pdf\/2025\/RESPONDING%20TO%20POTENTIAL%20FEDERAL%20IMPACTS%20FROM%20HR.1%2006.24.2025%20Item%209.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bracing for the loss<\/a> of at least $300 million a year in federal government funding.<\/li>\n<li>One in eight San Diegans could face economic hardship because of cuts to critical programs and services.<\/li>\n<li>More than 400,000 San Diegans risk losing access to healthcare.
