Michigan coach Dusty May hasn\u2019t shied away from targeting and pursuing under-the-radar recruits.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s L.J. Cason, a three-star prospect who followed May from Florida Atlantic to Michigan last season and had key contributions as a freshman. There\u2019s Patrick Liburd, a three-star wing who was a late addition to the Wolverines\u2019 2025 recruiting class.<\/p>\n

And there\u2019s Malachi Brown, a three-star wing from Tennessee who committed to Michigan on Wednesday less than a week after he was offered by the Wolverines.<\/p>\n

Brown, who didn\u2019t receive his first Division 1 offer until earlier this month, shared the news of his pledge<\/a> on his social media accounts.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been kind of an under-recruited player and didn’t really have any high-major (offers) so when Michigan offered, I was pretty ecstatic,” Brown told 247Sports<\/a>. “They are a great program so I figured why not take them up on the offer. I was really grateful that they were my first Power Four offer, so it was pretty awesome.”<\/p>\n

Brown, a 6-foot-5, 185-pounder who plays for Knoxville (Tennessee) Catholic, began to garner attention recently when he stood out at the Adidas All-American Camp in California.<\/p>\n

His strong showing led to UC Santa Barbara extending a scholarship offer on Sept. 12. May followed suit after going and watching Brown in person last week.<\/p>\n

Brown joins four-star forward Quinn Costello, who committed last week<\/a>, and 7-foot-2 Danish center Marcus Moller<\/a> in Michigan\u2019s 2026 recruiting class.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s ranked the No. 154 overall recruit in the nation, the No. 47 small forward in the class and the No. 6 prospect in Tennessee by the 247Sports composite.<\/p>\n

“It’s kind of overwhelming at times wondering if I’m going to get a lot of hate or live up to the expectations of going to Michigan. But I know that while I’m there I’m going to develop,\u201d Brown told 247Sports. \u201cI’m not going to be a one-and-done type of guy and I know that, so I’m just ready to go to work and produce eventually.\u201d<\/p>\n
